32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Family, First off, I’m asking for a little help. There is a crucifix on the shelf in the entryway to our social hall. It’s a real nice one. Where did it come from? Why is it there? I would like to know it’s story. Secondly, an update on the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal: we’re doing good. For St. Ludger’s we are currently only $500 from our goal of $7800. For St. Ignatius, we are only $600 from our goal of $4600. THANK YOU to all who gave to the appeal. Aside from the generosity you show, what fills a pastor’s heart is the participation of everyone involved. It would be great to have more participate in the appeal, even if only a little bit is all that one can give. Giving any gift says “This is a good thing, I want to stand with my parish family and be a part of this.” Lastly, something I heard on Catholic Radio this week struck me. A couple involved in family ministry said, “Children stay in the Church when they see the faith as the source of the warmth in their family.” How important this insight is, considering how these days so many young people drift away from the faith, drift away from practicing it, and even become one of the “nones” that do not follow any religion. They need to - we all need to - experience God’s love. And they need to see that the warmth, the feeling of belonging and being loved, comes from God and comes through the love of the family for God. No family is perfect, to be sure. Every family has its struggles. But if we can turn to God and our faith in Jesus in those struggles and make that the source of the warmth in our homes, how blessed will we and our children be. Have a blessed week.
