FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) Foundation of Jesus’ comfort: • He is going to the Father’s House. • He will personally make provision for our coming there. • When the necessary preparations are complete, He will come back, bringing us to Him. • The Holy Spirit will be given as your source of God’s presence. • His own peace He gives to us. 2) 14:27 If there is no peace with God, there cannot be any real peace in this life. 3) Unsaved people enjoy peace when there is an absence of trouble. Christians enjoy peace in spite of trials because of the presence of the Holy Spirit. 4) Because He is the “God of peace” (Romans 15:33, 16:20; Philippians 4:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:20; cf. Judges 6:24; Isaiah 9:6; 1 Corinthians 14:33; 2 Corinthians 13:11; 2 Thessalonians 3:16), God is the one source of all true peace. 5) HERE/HEAR [IS] WHAT GOD SAYS
-be filled with (Eph. 5:18) and walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16, 25) -consider [ourselves] to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 6:11) -present [ourselves] to God as those alive from the dead” (Rom. 6:13) -responsibility to study the Scriptures diligently (2 Tim. 2:15) -run in such a way, as not without aim; …I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified” (1 Cor. 9:26–27)
“To live in anguish over the past, anxiety concerning the present, or apprehension about the future is to fail to appropriate that peace…” Dr. John MacArthur
6) God has forgiven your past, is providing for your present, and guarantees your future…leaving you nothing to legitimately worry about!
7) 14:28 God the Father and God the Son are eternally coequal; but in role and function, the Son submitted Himself to the Father’s will at the incarnation. 8) 14:30 Sin and death give Satan a hold over people (cf. Hebrews 2:14-15; Revelation 12:10). But since Jesus is sinless, Satan cannot claim Him for his kingdom of darkness. Satan thought Jesus’ death was a victory for him, but actually it was Jesus’ victory over Satan (Colossians 2:15).
