NOBLE INTENTIONS! The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) learners have been up and doing; learning selfless giving, resilience and sacrifice. They have, since the beginning of this term, been embarking of weekly volunteering service at Federal Medical Centre, Jabi and a 24 ‘famine’ (a day without). Their noble intention
was to donate their food to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps around Abuja. Below are some of the picture taken during the famine and weekly volunteering service.

WRITER OF THE WEEK A Unique Honesty - Ummahani Abubakar, Year 10 His name was Mubarak He was working as a guard in an orchard for quite some time. One day, the owner pf the orchard came there and ordered Mubarak saying, “Today some special quests have arrived. Pluck sweet pomegranates
and
present
them
to
the
quests.”
Mubarak stood up and returned with the pomegranate in a few minutes. The owner cut one pomegranate, tasted it and found it sour. The second too tasted the same. He called Mubarak, I had asked you to bring me some sweet pomegranates and you have brought the sour ones. Mubarak again went away and brought in some more pomegranates. The owner cut them and found them sour too. He became angry with Mubarak. You have been working in the orchard for the past so many years but are unable to differentiate between the sweet and sour pomegranates? Mubarak replied, ‘’master! In deed I cannot identify them. I have never eaten any pomegranates from the orchard and therefore how can I identify which is sweet and which is sour?’’ The reply stunned the owner. He asked. Why have you never tasted any? Mubarak, you had placed the orchard under my care, and you never give me permission whether I could eat from its fruit or not. This reply of Mubarak surprised the owner. The quests too were astonished over the piety and honesty of Mubarak. The owner thought, this man did not eat the fruit of my orchard for the sake of God, despite the fact that he is serving here for many years. He then decided to gift the entire orchard to Mubarak. Dear readers, did you notice how Mubarak did not touch something, even though it cost very little, for sake of God. Look at how better and abundant reward God then gave him. This was in addition to the reward in the life of the hereafter which he was bound to get.
