Holly School has once again had its annual Christmas concert and, as always, the students at Holly put on an excellent show. The night started off with the fifth grade band playing a song that involved the carols “Up On the Housetop” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” in a medley called “Christmas Cheer.” This was followed by another medley of songs “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” and “Jingle Bells”, two amazing Christmas classics that were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The second act was the sixth grade band. For their first song they played “Procession of the King” which was a combination of the songs “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “We Three Kings of Orient Are”. Their next song was the old favorite by Don Gardner “All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)”. Senior and concert goer Rachel Kodavatikanti, when asked about the fifth and sixth grade bands said, “It was fun to watch them play and watch them as they looked at each other and their music. I loved it.” The Junior High band started off their section by playing the old and well received “Away in a Manger” followed by “Sleigh Ride”. “My favorite song was ‘Sleigh Ride’ because it had a good beat,” stated saxophone player in the junior high band Dakota Eaton. “It was also a challenge because it was faster.” The last band of the night was the high school band who played “And All the Bells on Earth Shall Ring” and “Celtic Carol”, two songs that took advantage of the many percussion instruments. “All of the bands added in new percussion instruments such as the chimes to their songs,” stated music teacher Kelly Weisenhorn. She also added, “I want to say thanks to all of the students who stepped in and filled in where we were missing players due to being sick.” After the bands, the various school choirs were able to perform starting with preschool who sang “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. Then the junior high choir performed “Mistletoe”, a song that was originally performed by pop star Justin Bieber. The high school choir sang the songs “That’s Christmas to Me”, a song by acapella group Pentatonix, and “Where are You Christmas” from the movie The Grinch. “I enjoyed singing ‘Where are You Christmas’ because it was from my favorite Christmas movie. Every year I watch that movie and sing that song so it was fun singing it in choir,” stated high school member Jordan Lozano. To end off the night the kindergarten through fourth grade students put on a small little musical that consisted of six songs and speaking parts.” What is in store for the music students now? “Now we will be skill building, the junior high will be back in pep-band, we will be auditioning for honor choirs, and the spring concert,” says Kelly Weisenhorn.

By Taylor Neugebauer The boys kicked off another basketball season last weekend with two wins. They beat Hi-Plains with flying colors, 70-46, on Friday. They traveled to McClave on Saturday and also got the win, however, that game was much closer ending at 55-47. The boys put on a show for their season opening weekend. Sigi said the weekend went pretty well because they got both wins, but they know that they can play better, so it’s time to strengthen their weaknesses. He said the season should be successful but it is too early to tell how the season will go. Yaniel said that Friday went really well for them. They had four of the boys ending the game with more than 10 points each. He wants to give a shout out to Marshall for averaging 11.5 rebounds a game. Keep up the good work Marshall! Yaniel says that Saturday was sluggish for them because once they got a flow going they couldn’t keep it going. He also said they didn’t have the same balance against McClave as they did against Hi-Plains. Yaniel’s opinion on how the season is going to go is good. He says that they should be successful because they are going to get better, and when they do he feels sorry for any teams that have to play them. The boys played again on Tuesday against Stanton County. Robert says, “Considering that we were down two starters, our game went pretty well. I felt confident when I had to go in and play and we got a good win.”

Chandler says that against Stanton County the game was pretty tough because they were really good about pushing the ball and getting down the court. He said he had big shoes to fill since they didn’t have two of their starters and he hadn’t ever been in a position like that, but it was a good feeling to win the game. Against Elkhart on Friday, great things were accomplished. The team got the win, as expected, and Yaniel broke some school records! He shot 11 for 15 three pointers and had 51 points. “It was an incredible thing to see,” said head coach, Dusty Heck. “He has put in so much time and he has probably shot thousands of shots in his career already and the team was just as excited and happy for him as he was.” Mr. 51, aka Yaniel, said that against Elkhart, their first half of the game was not their best, but when the second half rolled around they were on fire. They had good open shots and they just went crazy. “I didn’t go into the game trying to score 51 points, but when I got to 46 I wanted to get to 50,” commented Yaniel. The next night against Greely County was another success. They had a good, comfortable 30 point lead at half. Yaniel says that they played well, he just wants to see their defense improve because it isn’t where it should be. Dusty says that he was proud of the starters, the way they got their leads, and he was proud of the guys coming off the bench who gave them positive

minutes. He says that they were given good opportunities to prepare for future circumstances. For the Holiday Tournament, everyone is excited. Yaniel says that he’s chasing a 3-peat. The teams he is most concerned about are Wiley and McClave, even though McClave hasn’t found their rhythm yet. He just plans to get the job done. Dusty says that he wants the boys to go out and compete and win. He wants them to play better at each game. He says he loves the atmosphere the HBT has and says they have a great shot at a 3-peat. Coach Heck says the boys just have to stay hungry because everyone wants to be at the top, and anyone can win.

By Alex Gutierrez This year the girls’ basketball team has about fifteen girls that tried out. Their first game was on Friday, December 2nd against the Flagler Panthers. The girls won that game 33-28. On Saturday, December 3rd they played against the McClave Cardinals. The girls lost that game in overtime by three points. The final score was 46-49. I asked Marie Gomez and Itzy Juarez a few questions about the team this year and how they feel about the season. When asked how she feels about how she played during the game and why, Senior Marie Gomez replied with “These girls have the potential to play and whatever happens, happens and they need to always keep their heads up. The next question that was asked was, “What do you think the

outcome of the first game will be?” Marie said that it was a good game because they have good shooters this year and new plays they have learned. I also asked her how she feels about there being a new coach and the adjustment. Marie said that Grady Cook is doing a good job of a coach. The way Itzy felt this weekend was really nervous because it was her first year on the Varsity. She also said that the team they played is new to her and it was a wonderful outcome because the girls kept their heads in the game and kept a positive attitude. Itzy thinks that the new coach is a big adjustment for her and the game became more intense yet fun for her. She thinks that Coach Cook makes the team

By Diana Olague The Limon Tournament on Saturday went well for the Holly wrestling team. The four wrestlers: Grayden Flint, Cody Crum, Brendyn Nordyke, and Alex Venegas did a great job. Sophomore Austin Crum was not able to wrestle because of an injury. Freshmen Grayden Flint was interviewed and he said that he did decent during his matches. Grayden was able to wrestle twice, but unfortunately lost both times. Flint says that for the next tournament he will work harder and do his best. Junior Alex Venegas also said he did decent,

but lost as well. What he will do to improve is practice more and work hard. Sophomore, Cody Crum did a great job; he made it the finals. His match went pretty quickly and he won. Along with him, sophomore Brendyn Nordyke also made it to the finals and won the match. Congratulations to our boys, they are doing a great job so far, and we hope they keep doing great for the rest of the season. Next up is the Holly tournament on Saturday, December 17th.

strive for greatness. This year the girls’ basketball team has a lot of potential to go far and make it to state. None of the high schoolers now have experienced going to state in basketball and they would love to know what it feels like.

It is week 15 in college football, and we already have some conference winners. Local team, CU faced off against the Washington Huskies for the Pac 12 championship. The match seemed close in the first quarter since the game was tied 7-7. But the Huskies outscored them in the end 41-10 giving Washington the Pac 12 championship. Next up were the Oklahoma Sooners’ vs the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Sooners came out on top 38-20 and are now the Big 12 champions. Then, the Crimson Roll Tide went up against the Florida Gators. The defending champions won the game easily 54-16 and are now 13-0.

The only game that was close was the Wisconsin game against Penn State for the Big 10 championship. The game was close until the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Penn state scored ten points and gave them the win 38-31. After all these games, the top four teams have been chosen for the playoffs. At number 1, are the undefeated defending champions, Alabama. At number two, is Clemson, at number three, is Ohio State and at number four, is Washington. That means that Alabama and Washington will face off in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl while Clemson and Ohio State face off in the Fiesta Bowl.

Hopefully, there can be a rematch from last year’s Championship game, which involved Alabama vs Clemson. Both games will be exciting to watch. The games will be on New Year’s Eve.

By Flor Orozco On December 5, the drama class preformed an outstanding play, “Boyfriend by Blackmail.” I believe that it was a pretty well preformed play. It was also very hilarious, especially the ending. If you didn’t attend the play, you definitely missed out. The play was about a girl named Cassidy Tyler, performed by Rachel Kodavatikanti, who was a writer for a magazine. As her stories were no longer eyecatching she decided to make stories up about a “boyfriend” who she was supposedly dating; a guy named Tanner Fox. She even led her family on the lie. There was always an excuse for Tanner never going to any of the family events. Later, her editor (Juan Moreno) contacted sports writer, Jason Stone (Brandon Wilson), to portray himself as her boy-

friend Tanner. When she went to her hometown, Farmland, Indiana, she was ready to tell her family about the truth of her fake boyfriend Tanner. As she was trying to get rid of him her family began to have a liking of Tanner. As they began to talk about telling her family about their lie, Cassidy’s ex-boyfriend (Jesus Perez) and his fiancé (Basti Pena) rubbed their engagement in her face and “Tanner” let them know they were also engaged. With her brother Noah (Chance Kennedy) overhearing the conversation, he let the family know about they happy news. Although trying to get rid of Jason, aka Tanner, Cassidy found herself falling in love with Jason. When her sister’s (Athena Crum) graduation party came around, that’s when the truth came out. In the end, everyone

knew the truth about Jason. Later, Jason decided to leave Farmland, but Noah had told Jason before he had left that his sister was in love with him. Jason didn’t believe that Cassidy loved him so he left, but later he came back to proclaim his love for Cassidy.

By Robert Gutierrez It’s hard to find gifts for people these days. Everything is starting to get so expensive and it’s just harder and harder to find that perfect present. Don’t worry, though, I am here to help you find the best possible gift for your friend, family member, and/or boy/ girlfriend. Now, first things first, it all depends on who you want to get the gift for. If you’re looking for a gift for a family member, then there’s one important rule! Don’t spend money on them! Here’s what you’re going to want to do. Look for the dustiest thing in their room, this indicates that they don’t really use that item very much, and if it’s in their room, then they obvi-

ously liked it at one point. Just clean it off and wrap it. I guarantee you that they’ll love it. Next, are your gifts for your friends. There’s not so much a rule, but guidelines for when you go present hunting for your “bestie.” I’m not saying that you shouldn’t spend a lot of money, but think about it. They’re more than likely going to spend money on their family and leave you as a second choice. Personally, I don’t like being a second choice, so I wouldn’t really go “all out” when looking for that Christmas present. A cheap gift would probably be the best thing you could do. Maybe like a yard sale T-shirt or a framed picture

of you guys. Sentimental value is the key! If they don’t like it then take the gift back and end the friendship. Friendships are based on personalities, not gifts, and you don’t want to go out wasting time and money buying gifts for jerks. Last but not least, is buying a gift for your “other half.” Here’s the key. The number one rule. The most important tip… fellas, it’s all on you. The lady doesn’t have to do a thing. You have to go all out. Don’t expect a gift back either, because “their love is enough of a gift.” So good luck gift shopping this year!

By Ricky Tamayo Many people don’t know this, but Cyber Monday is only in the United States and it is always the first Monday after Thanksgiving. It allows you to have some amazing bargains while online shopping. Created by Ellen Davis, the Cyber Monday made it big on November 28, 2005. Cyber Monday is the highest online shopping day and it helps when 95% of workers decide to go online shopping that day instead of working. With all the spending and saving people do, it has shown that people still spend the most money on this day. Because people just love to save money in the U.S., today, 77 percent of online retailers said that their sales increased significantly on the Monday after

Thanksgiving, a trend that is causing serious discounts online and promotions on Cyber Monday the past few years. According to the Shop.org, Cyber Monday online sales are now to a record high of $2.98 billion, compared to $2.65 billion in 2014. But, the average order was $128, which down a little from 2014. The deals on Cyber Monday that are online are more likely offered by smaller companies that can’t compete with the big retailers. Black Friday is usually thought to offer better deals on technology, with nearly 85 percent more data storage deals than Cyber Monday. Black Friday sees far more deals for small appliances, cutlery, and kitchen

gadgets on average than Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday is usually used more for fashion shopping. On Cyber Monday, there is an average of 45 percent more clothing deals than on Black Friday. There is even 50 percent more deals on shoes for Cyber Monday than on Black Friday. Cyber Monday has become an international marketing term used by online retailers across the world. Men usually like Black Friday more and women usually like Cyber Monday to do without the hassle, and it’s easier to buy from their favorite designer. It’s all basically just a game and whoever wins the price before its gone, walks out with the dub.

By Jesus Perez On November 28, an attacker caused havoc on the Ohio State University (OSU) campus. Reports say that the attacker was influenced to do the attacks by ISIS. Abdul Razak Ali Artan was the identified attacker. He rammed his car into a group of people. After doing this he got out of his car and charged at by-standers with knives. He had bought the knives for the attack the morning of the attack. Despite claims by the media in Islam, saying that Artan was a soldier of ISIS, there is no evidence of him having any contact with a terrorist group before the attack. Someone called in a fluorine leak at the building where the attacks happened. Because of safety precautions, the stu-

dents went outside. The attacker then drove a Honda Civic into the courtyard of the building. He hit several pedestrians including Professor William Clark. After the initial attack many bystanders rushed in to help. The attacker then got out of his vehicle with a butcher knife in his hand, and started attacking the students. Anderson Payne attempted to unarm the attacker but was unsuccessful in doing so. In his attempt to do so, the attacker slashed his hand. The police were on the scene within two minutes and stopped the attacker by shooting and killing him. The initial report stated that there was an active shooter at the school. OSU sent out an emergency notification warning to students to stay indoors.

The police officer who shot and killed the attacker ordered Artan to put down his weapon before shooting. He failed to comply with his orders, but an academic advisor witnessed the shooter charge towards the officer before he took the shot. There was a total of thirteen people who were injured in the attack. Only eleven of them where directly injured by the attacker, the rest were struck by the car. Two of the victims had a stab wounds and one had a fractured skull. Another of the victims was shot in the foot by a stray shot that the officer who killed the attacker shot.

By Jordan Lozano On Monday, November 28th, a wildfire broke out in Denver. The wildfire was reported around 5 p.m. Two hours later, the fire forced evacuations from a neighborhood on the east side of Green Mountain. The fire broke out on the large open space south of West Sixth Avenue and east of C-470. The area is grassy with patches of brush but few trees. The glow of flames atop Green Mountain was visible from downtown Denver and other parts of the metro area. Firefighters took up positions in the neighborhoods to extinguish flames if they got close to homes. A total of 4,300 evacuation notifications that were sent out were lifted later that night. Crews aggressively attacked the fire. By 8:30 p.m., they were at 90% contain-

ment. Evacuations were called off at 9:20 p.m. that same day. At about 1 a.m. the next morning West Metro tweeted that the cause of the fire is still unknown, and that the investigation will continue in the morning of Tuesday the 29th. There were no reports of campers or lightning. Strong winds caused the fire to flare up on Monday. Wind was blowing above 20 miles per hour and later slowed down to the teens. Wind speeds were also strong Tuesday morning as fire crews were monitoring the perimeter of the fire for possible hotspots. The cause of the fire had to be done by a human, just because it is not lightning season. After many days of investigation, it was found that the fire was caused by a man

working on a driveway gate near the area. This shows just how easy a fire can be started even though it is not wild fire season. Many people took this as a warning sign showing how fast events can happen, and how ready people really are for this.

By Marie Gomez When you think about ancient civilizations, thousands of years comes to mind right? Well did you know that Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire?! That’s crazy considering the Aztec Empire ruled in the 14th century. Oxford University was never truly founded, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096. We all know that ostriches are not very smart. An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain, so it makes sense that they have a bad reputation. For all you germ freaks like me, this fact is very disturbing. There are more living organisms on the skin of a single human being than there are human beings on the surface of the earth. The thought makes my skin cringe and me sick to my

stomach. No matter how many times I wash my hands, I will always have a billion germs on me. Another fact that gives me goosebumps is that a human sheds 40 pounds of skin in a lifetime! That is super gross right? Where does it even go? Most of our dead skin makes its way under the bed, covers, and pillows. Do you think you have a big nose or ears? Well, too bad! The nose and ears never stop growing. The reason for the growth is not all actual cartilage growth, but the effect of gravity! The cartilage tends to break down as we age, and eventually stretches out, resulting in the appearance of a bigger nose and ears! After a hot summer day, we all like to drink a nice cold soda such as Sprite, Dr.

Pepper, Mountain Dew, or Coca-Cola. If you are a Coca-Cola fan, you must know this fact! Coca-Cola once had actual cocaine as an ingredient of the soda. CocaCola did not become completely cocaine -free until 1929!

By Sigi Avalos A new game has taken over many of the high school students’ spare time. First, it was the game agar.io, which was a game of circles getting bigger and bigger as it ate other circles. Now splix.io is the new game that has everyone playing when they get the chance to get their fingers on a computer. It is another gaming obsession for many high schoolers. Splix.io is a snake like figure going everywhere you move the cursor. As you move through, the figure makes a line to how far you can get and however you move. The point of the game is to cover as much area as you can while other players also try to do the same. The more area you have, the better chance you have to be on the leaderboard. There are two ways to lose,

which are when another player crosses your line while you leave all the space that you have made, or if you cross your own line. It is similar to the slither.io and snake which is the older arcade version. There was only a single mode which only you could play, but now they introduced a new mode that allows you to play with teams. The game may not look very fun and exciting, but many other people think otherwise. Luis Mendoza, one of the local legends to play, mentioned, “It is very competitive; it is fun, especially when you compete against teachers that are not good (Mr. Boydstun).” Splix.io is taking over and has been more popular than the past games high schoolers have played. You can count

on a new game coming out soon that will have everyone playing it, but there is no doubt about splix.io being a very intriguing game for many students today.

Dear Wanda, how many kids do you have? You are all my children.

Do you think that our boys’ basketball team could win state this year? Is the sky blue?

What is the best thing to do when you’re sad? Scientifically speaking, you will want to surround yourself with things that you find enjoyable. Social connections will help too. Surrounding yourself with people you love, and doing things that you enjoy will release hormones in your brain that increase your mood.

Will you give me a bag of Hersey’s kisses whenever you can please??? Of course, but I do not know who wrote this note.

Who is your mom, Wanda? I am my own mother. How do I ask someone out? Situational methods I find best. Approach said subject while they seem occupied in something. Display a common interest in the subject. Conversate about it. Lead into asking them to hang out. Side notes: take it slow and be confident in yourself. Who R U (are* you*) Also, you forgot to add punctuation. Also, I am you.

Do you know me? Do you know Peter? How do you get a life? Find something you will enjoy and be good at. Find people that will enjoy this along with you. Whether it may be sports, or cruising, or shopping, being with friends and going out and doing things is the best way. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? 252 Who are you? Don’t say Wanda because I know your real name. If you know my real name why would you ask?

How do I be a good friend? Be caring. Be observant of your friend. Make mental notes of what they react to positively and negatively. Try to notice whenever they need help and be there for them. How do I know if a boy likes me? There are many factors to consider. For example how much attention he gives you. Also reaction he gives you whenever you talk to him. I would say if he is always talking to you smiling and cracking jokes then he definitely likes you. Side note guys like whenever girls makes the first move. Facts. If you’re a girl and you like a guy that lives in a different town what do you do? Date him duh. Who’s your mom, because my grandpa is single? Actually your grandpa is my mom. Who’s your crush? Everyone because everybody is beautiful

Also, thank you to whoever drew this. It is beautiful and I love you.
