Happy Earth Day

Modern World History Field Trip To Museum L/A  By: Noah Bisson  Did you know that since 1852 the best blankets, fabrics, bedspreads, and  clothes were manufactured here in Lewiston? In 1850 the Bates Mill  complex was founded by Benjamin Bates, and from then on, the largest  employer in the state lay right here in our own backyards. The history of  the Bates Mill complex goes much deeper than that. Did you know that kids  as young as 8 worked on looms for 10 to 12 hours a day?    Mrs. Butler’s Modern World history students are currently learning about  the Industrial Revolution.  On Friday (4‐8), she took a group of students  from her classes to the Museum of L/A. The purpose of the trip was to  learn about the history of labor right here in Lewiston, where we evolved  from only a small town packed with factories to the model city we are now.     The tour began in an upstairs floor where there was a thousand square foot  open room which used to hold over one hundred looms about 6 to 7 feet  tall. After the walk through that room, we proceeded to a room filled with  banners displaying modern day quotes from people who worked in the  factories as kids. The themes of the quotes were grim, many people  conveyed the pain of the long days and very poor working conditions.     After the banner room, there was a series of rooms filled with artifacts,  some dating back to before the mills were founded. The artifacts ranged

from bricks from the front yards to raw cotton recovered from the mill work rooms. The tour went on for  much longer, with all the facts and knowledge said, it is near impossible to mention it all in one article.    The museum always welcome visitors, you can visit too! The information is below!    Phone‐ 333‐3881  Address‐ 35 Canal St. in Lewiston  Email‐ [email protected]

A Day at the Museum  The Game of Diplomacy  By: Robert Shepard  Do you align yourself with the powerful Russians and risk betrayal? Or do you align with France, less  power but more trustworthy? These questions run through the minds  of the Diplomacy Club’s members. Every Tuesday and Thursday in  room 206‐A, students meet to attempt domination. Competing on  maps of 1914 Europe and present day North America, the players each  control a country or fraction for the overall goal of capturing the most  supply centers. But, this isn’t your average Risk game. Where all battles  are based solely on numbers, strategy and cooperation is the key to  success. The more allies you have; the mores games you’ll win. Games  are always exciting and entertaining. Members are friendly and always love to see new players. So if you  are looking for an intense strategy game and make a few friends, try out the Diplomacy Club!          Indigo Ink…Get Involved!

Procrastination  By: Brianna Remeika  Procrastination. Did you cringe? Can you relate? Procrastination is, personally, one of my biggest faults. I  can blame my procrastination condition on many things‐  exhaustion, extra‐curricular, family time… But to be honest,  my biggest foe and the very essence of my procrastination  spawns from the dreaded social networks. How am I  supposed to get work done when there are apps like Tumblr  and Instagram and Facebook? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO  HOMEWORK WHEN THERE ARE CUTE KITTEN VIDEOS ALL  OVER MY DASH?     I’ll admit I find it hard to put down my cellphone or even go near a computer without wasting time. I’ve  tried many different methods to avoid getting distracted from my homework: turning off all of my  devices, leaving the house, staying at the school library. Yet, somehow I always end up watching John  Cena strut across my screen. HOW DID I GET HERE? I’m not sure, but suddenly my books are on the floor  and I’m watching a tutorial on how to speak giraffe.     So far, the best method I’ve come up with in regards to studying is to turn my phone off and hide it far  away from myself. Then, when I’m on the computer to do my work, I try to focus, hard as it may be.  While I really want to throw shade at that 12‐year‐old who just insulted Pikachu, I also really want to  pass English. I guess the simple answer when it comes to the choice between blogging and hitting the  books is to sort out your priorities.     Fun Facts  By: Indigo Ink Staff   A group of unicorns is called a blessing.   Charlie Chaplin once entered a “Charlie Chaplin look‐a‐like” contest and lost.   There are jellyfish (Turritopsis nutricula) that can live forever by reverting its cells to the earliest form   Samsung also is a weapons technology manufacturer    Albert Einstein never wore socks.   Leonardo Da Vinci designed a helicopter and a parachute.    When you lie, the temperature of your nose rises (Pinocchio Effect)   Walt Disney has 22 Oscars   From 1923 to 1969, “American” was the official language of Illinois    Jackie Chan’s father was a spy, and his mother an opium smuggler.

Inside the LHS Political Machine  By: Robert Shepard  Indigo Ink sat down with Hunter Steele, 2019 Class Vice President to see how electoral office meetings  were going. The first question addressed the main idea behind the meetings. Steele explained that the  vendetta was mostly prom fundraising and class tee‐shirt ideas. Steele was questioned about the  campaign promise made by President Shawn Michael Chabot and himself, about having more enjoyable  fundraisers over the classic door to door selling for prom. The response was one such fundraisers is  working its way up administration. Questions then turned to the 2019 Class tee‐shirts. The inspiration  behind them was to make an object that would remind students of good times at LHS as freshmen. So,  as the conversation drew to a close, Steele wanted to remind all the freshmen to buy a tee‐shirt. They  are $10 cash and all profits go to prom planning. See an electoral official or Ms. Blain to order.             Indigo Ink…Get Involved!
