NEWSLETTER - WEEK 3, TERM 2 Tuesday May 15 Dear Parents,Teachers and Students, NAPLAN This week our Year 3 & 5 students are completing NAPLAN assessments for literacy and numeracy. The students have been well prepared through the quality teaching that has happened from Kindergarten. The results of the NAPLAN tests are available to parents and the school in September. We use these results to track student progress from Year 3 to Year 5 and also to identify areas of strength and also areas that may require further focus in our teaching. This is one assessment of the student's ability, classroom teachers are regularly assessing students literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that students are being challenged in their learning. Our focus on quality teaching in literacy and strategies and skills from Gifted Education have supported teachers in effectively planning for students learning and ensuring students are challenged and moving along the learning continuum. Tuesday - Sport For this term we are trialling the whole school going up to Rawson Oval in the afternoon from 1.35pm for sport. The students are involved in various team sporting activities, St 1 - AFL , and St 2 & 3 students have the opportunity to play teeball, netball, oztag and soccer. Teams are formed across year levels (House colours). This gives the students exposure to a variety of team sports. Kindergarten have a focus on gross motor skill development.

Athletics Carnival - Blessed Sacrament Wednesday May 30 A letter with information regarding our Athletics Carnival will be emailed to parents. We are also looking for volunteers to help us on the day of the carnival. Please note that this year, we have included a whole school ball game (under and over) as the last event of the carnival. Points for this will be given to each student participating for their colour house. All children are expected to stay until the carnival concludes to support their team. Please return the athletics forms to school, thank you. Assembly Assembly will be held tomorrow morning Wednesday at 8.45am in Lochinvar Hall. All parents and friends welcome to attend.

Mother's Day Stall Thank you to all the Kindergarten parents for organising the stall last Friday. The children love this experience of selecting a gift for their mothers - hope all mums were super happy with your chosen present! Reflection The feast of Pentecost, this Sunday, brings the Season of Easter to a close, the Holy Spirit was bestowed on the apostles fifty days after Easter.

When was the last time that we heard the wind of your Spirit roar through this place? When was the last time your fire lit up this room? When was the last time we took you at your word and met together in expectation of your Spirit filling this place, and these lives with your Glory and Power?

Lord, you challenge us with Pentecost. Do we believe that this was a once in eternity experience, never to be repeated? That the Holy Spirit was poured out on your followers for a single purpose, and ended His work at that instant? If so, then maybe that is why the Church seems so powerless in this age, helpless when faced with the needs both spiritual and physical, that we see in the world. Lord, as we meet together, and celebrate once again the memory of that first Pentecost, may it be for us as it was then a moment of empowerment, an awareness of your Glory in this dark world, a life changing experience. Spirit of life ALL: Fill our emptiness with your fullness Spirit of power ALL: Stir our hearts afresh Spirit of love ALL: Touch us, and through us, our neighbour Spirit of Creativity ALL: Enable and empower the gifts you have given Spirit of Eternity ALL: Draw us ever deeper into your Kingdom Quote for the week I love those who can smile in trouble… Leonardo da Vinci Louise O'Brien Principal

Dear Parents, Our tuckshop runs on volunteers and we are in need of bakers and servers for this term. Bakers We need three bakers every Monday. Each baker only needs to make 24 items (think small square slice, cookies, cup-cakes etc) can be packet or home-made – just remember no nuts! Drop them off at the tuckshop on Monday morning when you do school run. Servers: We need two people for morning tea shift and two people for lunch shift, so grab a buddy and come and see your children at play! All you need is your Working With Children (WWC) number and 60 mins of your time you’re willing to spend at school (sorry no small children in the tuckshop). Still undecided…the following are comments and recommendations from current servers and bakers. “What a great way to catch up with school friends” Year 5 Parent “It was fun, easy and over in a flash” First timer “So lovely to see all those smiling faces...they grow up too quick” Class 4 parent If you are interested, please email the tuckshop team at [email protected] with dates you can help out. PS. Please send your children to school with low denomination coins for tuckshop, we can’t always change big notes.
