Update on Library Funding Quarterly Newsletter Covering March, April & May 2017

Dear Kinsman Free Public Library Patron, We are very appreciative here at the Kinsman Free Public Library for the support we receive from our patrons through state funding, levy funds, and generous donations and contributions. We would not be able to serve you at the current level without your support. I want to share information with you about the present status of funding for Ohio’s public libraries. At the state level, we are fortunate to be funded through the Public Library Fund (PLF) which receives a percentage of the state’s tax revenues from the state’s General Revenue Fund (GRF). Revenue sources for the GRF include the state personal income tax, sales and use tax, business taxes, etc. The PLF is currently set at 1.7% of the GRF, but it will be automatically reduced to 1.66% on July 1, 2017. This will cut state funding for Ohio's public libraries. The Ohio Library Council (OLC) is working with Ohio’s public libraries to educate members of the Ohio General Assembly on the status of our state funding. We know that Ohioans value their public libraries and that public libraries create opportunities and transform lives. We will be working with the OLC during the next several months to protect state funding for Ohio's public libraries. I will keep you posted with updates as we work through this process.

Kinsman Free Public Library 6420 Church Street Kinsman, Ohio 44428 (330) 876-2461 www.kinsmanlibrary.org Hours: Monday—Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday: CLOSED

I urge you as a library supporter to contact our legislators and tell them why you love your library, and why they should work to protect public library funding. I will be attending Legislative Day in Columbus on March 29, 2017 and will have the opportunity to meet with legislators. If you would like to send a letter telling them why you love your library, I would be happy to deliver your letter in person when I go to Columbus. If you’d like me to deliver your letter, please bring it to the library and be sure to include your name and contact information.

Dear Kinsman Free Public Library Patron, It has been such a pleasure settling in as your new Library Director. The staff, Board of Trustees and patrons have been incredibly welcoming, and for that I am truly grateful. I have been spending a great deal of time becoming acquainted with the building, the collection, and the various, wonderful services that the library has to offer. I have also been working on adding new products, programs and services to continually strive toward providing excellence to our community and our patrons. One new feature the library has added is a service called, Flipster, which allows card holders access to digital magazines to read on a computer, tablet, or smart phone. I invite you to visit our website , click on the Flipster logo or scrolling marquee, and try the new service today!

Thank you again for your support. It is truly a joy to serve the people of the Kinsman Free Public Library area!
