Parents and Students, It’s Reading Month! February is Reading Month at Roosevelt and we have numerous activities planned. Please refer to the calendar in the newsletter to know what’s happening during the month and encourage your child to participate. Reading is the core of everything we do at school, please celebrate reading this month with Roosevelt! To culminate Reading Month, Roosevelt will host our next Family Night on March 1. Gateway to Science will be setting up interactive stations for students to build, explore, and experiment. Please join us for supper and fun activities. Specific information will be posted on our Facebook account and sent home later this month. As the weather continues to fluctuate, I would just like to remind you to still send the proper winter gear to school with your children. As we all know, the weather can quickly change for the worst. Children will not be sent outside when the temperature/wind-chill is colder than -10 degrees. Also, be aware that there is no adult supervision on our playgrounds until 8:15 am. Please make the necessary arrangements to have your child dropped off sometime after 8:15 am. The second trimester will end on February 23. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on March 5 and 6, to discuss the progress that your child is making this school year. We will, once again, be scheduling your child’s conference online. You will receive written directions on how to register later this month. If you have any questions, problems, or concerns with the process, please contact Mrs. Leingang. Thank you in advance for your participation. Keep up to date on what is happening at Roosevelt by following us on Facebook. You can find us by searching @mandanroosevelt! Thank you, Mr. Meschke, Principal

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Watch for the online portal opening on February 17
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 6 from 3:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. We will again be using PTCFast for parents to schedule a time and date. Each student will be bringing a letter home on Thursday, February 15, which will contain the information needed to register for a conference. The portal will open at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16, and will close at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 1. If you do not have internet access or would like help with setting up your conference, please contact the school office at 751-6507, or your child’s classroom teacher.
From the Library
If it’s on the internet, it must be true, right? I hope your child will respond with a loud “No!” Students in grades four and five have learned about evaluating websites and online sources. They also learned about the databases on the school library’s web page, which are reliable and trustworthy sources for school projects. Students in grade three started learning about digital citizenship, and appropriate cell phone use. We talked about distractions and multi-tasking, along with the positive reasons for having a cell phone. See the family tip sheet in this newsletter for more information about children and cell phone use. Students in kindergarten through grade two are learning about the author Jan Brett, and her favorite animal … hedgehogs.
