Business Models and Scenario Analysis The ability to accurately model the new venture’s operations must include multiple ways to insert different combinations of input variables that comprise the business model. This provides entrepreneurs with the ability to see how a range of prices may or may not work with a given range of direct costs, and the various gross profits that result from price-cost pairings. Those profit possibilities (MARGIN) can then be compared to the full gamut of likely overhead budgets (BURN)- based on dozens of assumptions about facilities, equipment, salaries, R+D, infrastructure, royalties, fees, and other fixed expenses. The business model presents the senior teams with insights into how price elasticity affects gross margin (negatively and positively) based upon fluctuations in labor and materials costs. It also demonstrates clearly how pricing, COGS, and margin permutations may (or may not) allow for certain scales of operations and output (VOLUME) due to factors such as locations, joint venture royalties, strategic partnership fees, production capacities, and subcontractor agreements. The MBV business model allows multiple scenarios to be tested and evaluated to see which combinations of assumptions align into the most reasonable performance expectations for the venture. In this chapter, business model simulations will be examined in light of creating a realistic risk continuum. This chapter concludes with a review of how the entrepreneur’s decision flexibility is a direct function of whether the business model allows for dynamic updates of the various inputs and to what degree do the impact overall venture success.

Organic Food Labeling Written by Molly Flanagan: Morehead State University
This popularity of buying organic foods is constantly increasing. However, consumers need to fully understand what each label means and if they are purchasing a certified product. It is not uncommon for marketers to mislead consumers with their labels. This brings up ethical concerns. This paper will define the term organic and outline its various certifications, discuss the recent growth and long-term growth of the organic food industry, and summarize consumer perceptions of organic food and their purchasing behavior. This will lend more understanding of how the organic food trend will affect consumers, corporations, industries, and society as a whole. Full Article Pg. 31
