Principal’s Report Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Kia Orana, Malo e Lelei, Fakaalofa Lahi atu, Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Ni Hao, Nei Ho, Selamat, Konnichiwa & greetings. I am very impressed with the opportunities and experiences that Carisbrook School is able to provide to students. Last Friday our ASPIRE students had their first session at the University of Otago. The six Year 8 students on the ASPIRE programme They participated in a scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with the University and met with their university coaches. The aim of ASPIRE is to introduce our ASPIRE students to the University, to increase motivation to pursue higher education, provide awareness of higher education options and learn about different jobs and careers and the training required for each. The ASPIRE session this week involves the students spending time in the Chemistry Department and participating in a number of experiments. Yesterday we had a group of students participate in the Dunedin Ukelele Jam. Teachers, Mrs Horton and Miss O’Brien accompanied our musicians and were impressed with their performance. A special mention to Courtney Parata who won second place in the art competition of designing a ukulele. On Tuesday four students flew to Auckland to view the High Tech Youth Studio and meet with the High Tech Network staff. The students had a great day and learnt a lot about the High Tech Studio’s. They were impressed with the technology and the projects that the students were working on. The four students looked at options for the layout of the Carisbrook Studio. We have advertised for a ‘Studio Producer’ and aim to have an appointment made in the next two weeks. The High Tech students will have the initial task of building the computers which will provide them with the opportunity to see what componentry makes up a computer.

The 10 things kids need most… Number 3
Love and hugs - Hugs and cuddles help children to feel safe and it comforts them, Holding your children, picking them up, sitting them on your lap, kissing and cuddling, are all good ways to show that you care. Holding a toddler’s hand when you’re out walking helps to protect them from danger and to feel sage and secure in the outside world. Older children need lots of affection to remind them that you care. You can do this with cuddles, a ‘goodnight’ kiss or a pat on the shoulder. Snuggling up close while reading a story together or watching TV is great for your child and you.
