Welcome back to Carisbrook School for term three. We are now just over halfway through the school year. We welcomed eleven new students who enrolled with Carisbrook School on Monday. It was interesting to see that the majority of those being in the year four to year six level. The new enrolments are listed further on in this newsletter. Carisbrook School currently has a roll of 340 and we expect to finish the year with approximately 355 students. Janette Whelan has returned to Carisbrook School after having the first two terms off. Janette has returned just in time to start another new entrant class, Huia. If any parents and caregivers have other siblings starting school before the end of this year, please contact the school office and let us know when their child will be turning five years old. Near the end of last term we held parent teacher interviews. 65% of our students had a parent or caregiver attend the parent teacher interview. Parent teacher interviews are an important part of the partnership between school and home. We ask that those parents and caregivers that could not make the last parent teacher interview, please contact the class teacher to arrange a suitable time for an interview.
Our Carisbrook Holiday programme ran very successfully over the term break. The students participated in a wide variety of activities and excursions. These included Ten Pin Bowling, police station tour, science workshops and the movies. Enrolments for the next holiday programme can be made now at the school office. The Carisbrook Holiday Programme is Oscar approved. Yesterday was the first session of the canoe polo option for senior students. The sixteen senior students had the first session at Moana Pool that was focused on land drills in particular, how they step into the gear and enter and exit the canoe. Next week the students have their first session in the water. I have been granted a principals sabbatical from the Ministry of Education that allows me to undertake some further research into collaborative teaching and innovative learning environments. This includes the opportunity to attend some professional development courses, undertaking more research as well as onsite visits to other schools that have implemented or trialed collaborative teaching models. Hence, there will be some days that I am not at Carisbrook School. Next Thursday our senior team has planned an open night to share with our year six students and parents the quality programmes, experiences and opportunities that are provided at Carisbrook School for year seven and eight students. I am very impressed with the wide variety of opportunities that our senior students are provided with and that we can offer these opportunities to all our senior students not just a selection. The senior part of Carisbrook School has grown since Carisbrook School opened in 2012 and we currently have eighty senior students. Continued on page 2

Principal’s Report Continued
The year eight Singapore Cultural Exchange students are getting very excited by their rapidly approaching trip to Singapore. Air New Zealand who has been a major supporter of this event through the ‘Airpoints for Schools’ programme contacted me last week to request permission to film our students on the flight for promotional reasons. I’m sure that the students will be more than happy to be filmed! Harold the giraffe and the Life Educator are onsite at Carisbrook School for the next few days. Our junior students and many of our middle students will participate in the health programmes with Harold over the next few days. Harold and Richard were not scheduled to be here until later in the year but during the school break they had had to make changes in their timetable for schools. Long may this great weather last.
