Welcome new proprietors to Columbia State Historic Park! The candle and soap shop has a new location and a new name. Seven Sisters Soap and Candle Company is located at 22719 Broadway Street in Columbia State Historic Park. The new proprietor, Glinda Wolverton has recently retired from nursing after 33 years and has embarked on a new adventure. Glinda began making goat milk soap in 2000 from goats that she and husband Brian raise on their farm in Columbia. Glinda’s father was raised in Columbia, as was she and her children. Brian’s family arrived in Columbia in the 1850s as immigrants. Brian and Glinda are excited about carrying on their heritage. The soap and candle shop is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving and Christmas. They carry many beautiful gifts for the holidays, and soap and candle making supplies. The Bart’s Black Skillet is under new management and is now known as the Columbia House Restaurant located at 22738 Main Street. The new proprietors, Steve and Doreen Kwasnicki of Sycamore Landscaping Corporation also operate the Pioneer Emporium and the Jack Douglass Saloon in Columbia State Historic Park. The Kwasnicki’s are from the Bay Area, but now call the Mother Lode area their home. Their daughter Megan and her husband Chris also work in the concessions. The Columbia House Restaurant is open every day except Wednesdays for breakfast and lunch from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information call 209/533-3983. Be sure to come out and welcome them to Columbia and watch for their Grand Opening also. The town will be decorated with holiday trimmings beginning the week of Thanksgiving. Businesses are generally open from 10:00-4:00 each day and admission to the park is free. Come enjoy the old fashioned holiday spirit and shop the many businesses and restaurants.
