COLORADO SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT 11 Student Netbook/Laptop Letter of Agreement Technology has now become an integral part of our daily lives in education. Colorado Springs School District 11 (the District) is providing you with a Netbook/Laptop, to use in your educational pursuits. Although the Netbook/Laptop is being issued to you, it remains District property and requires a letter of agreement, which is normal practice for both business and governmental entities. You will not be responsible for normal wear and usage only damage occurring out of abuse, misuse, or neglect. Thank you for reviewing and signing the “Netbook/Laptop Letter of Agreement” that follows. The District hopes that your school year will be a positive experience and that having a Netbook/Laptop will enhance your success. The Netbook/Laptop computer will be returned in good working condition at the conclusion of the year or when earlier requested by the District. My child, ________________ , is in receipt of the Netbook/Laptop computer and components identified at the bottom of the following page, which have been issued to us by the District. We understand that the use of the Netbook/Laptop computer is an expectation of a student enrolled in the District. We also understand and agree that to the best of our ability, my child and I will take appropriate and reasonable care of this computer and will maintain the security of the computer along with its components, both in and out of the school environment. We agree to have a suitable laptop bag or backpack for transportation of the Netbook/Laptop. We agree to follow Netbook/Laptop procedures as periodically provided by the District. Further, we understand that although we are not responsible for normal wear and usage, we are financially responsible if any damage is determined to be abuse, misuse, or neglect, as determined by the Division of Information Technology staff. We will pay the insurance premium (of approximately $50 annually) to offset any damages. We may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the District’s Board of Education policies. Examples of abuse, misuse, or neglect include, but are not limited to the following: dropping heavy objects on top of the Netbook/Laptop. removing the hard drive or the CD-ROM drive. not keeping the Netbook/Laptop, disks, and drives away from magnets. not avoiding extreme temperature changes. getting the Netbook/Laptop wet or exposing it to water. not keeping food and drinks away from the Netbook/Laptop. not protecting Netbook/Laptop from dust and dirt. leaving items on the keyboard when closing the Netbook/Laptop not keeping the Netbook/Laptop and Netbook/Laptop peripherals away from young children and pets. not handling your computer with care; don't drop, throw, bump or treat it in a manner that can cause damage. not securing Netbook/Laptop from theft at all times, both in and out of the school environment. Other items that should be considered: don’t install or remove any cards or drives from the Netbook/Laptop when turned on. install or remove the battery only when necessary and when powered off. don’t turn off the Netbook/Laptop when the hard drive LED is lit or hard drive is spinning. clean the exterior periodically (Netbook/Laptop should be turned off). keep the computer free from viruses, use the provided anti-virus software. don’t mar or mark the Netbook/Laptop with ink or other substance. do follow the Netbook/Laptop shut down or suspend procedure. We understand and agree that we will not change the standard configurations of the Netbook/Laptop, as determined by the Division of Information Technology, including but not limited to drivers, the operating system, etc. Further, we understand that we will not install non-District owned software, games, etc., on the Netbook/Laptop computer unless approved by the Division of Information Technology. I understand that my child will follow all guidelines stated in the District’s Acceptable Use Agreement. We understand and agree that we will not loan this Netbook/Laptop to anyone including other students and/or family members. We understand and agree we will not conduct personal business activities on the Netbook/Laptop. We understand and agree that we will report any malfunction or irregularities of this computer to the building Library Technology Educator as soon as there is a problem. We agree to comply with the Board of Education policies, regulations, and procedures, including any user agreement when using this Netbook/Laptop computer. We further understand and agree that we will not access or store pornographic or obscene materials on this computer. This Netbook/Laptop is subject to inspection at any time, including without prior notice. We understand and agree that we will use the assigned Netbook/Laptop as part of the educational program, and further understand that this computer is to be used for educational purposes, which includes: Managing information Document processing Telecommunications

• Accessing information • Communications • Work collaboration with peers
