NBC and Co-Ed Hockey Rules and Regulations 2015-16 Eligibility: 1. All players must have their validated student card, Lakehead University identification, or a confederation college student’s card at EACH game to provide to the convener. 2. All players must bring proof of enrolment to the first scheduled game. This can either be a Lakehead University bus pass for the current school year or a print out of their school schedule. No one will be allowed to play unless proof of enrolment is shown. 3. Confederation College students must provide a student card and proof of enrolment with a school schedule as well as signing the Confederation College Waiver, all to be handed in at the first scheduled game. 4. All players must also sign the roster form for their team, complete with a signature, student number, phone number and email. 5. Additions to the roster form will be allowed up until 6 weeks from the start of the season. Please check with your captain or the campus recreation website for exact dates. 6. A mandatory captains meeting will take place before the season starts to review rules, policies, procedures and deadline. If a captain is unable to attend, they must send a representative. Rules: 7. All Hockey Canada rules are in effect and have been modified to the extent that body checking is NOT permitted. Intentional body checking/contact could result in ejection from the league. 8. All players must wear CSA approved helmets with FULL face protection. Full Cage and NECK GUARD are mandatory. Equipment must be worn properly as per Hockey Canada guidelines. Failure to do so will result in a minor penalty. 9. Game duration: 1 min warm-up, 3 periods – 15 min, 15 min, 12 min respectively. Periods are run time and do not stop. Up to the last 3 minutes can be stop time for the third period providing time allows. Period minutes may change during playoffs to allow time for shoot-out, stop time, etc (to the convener’s discretion) 10. Games must start within 15 minutes of flooding. A team must have five skaters and one goalie to begin the game. Penalty: Forfeit. 11. Teams must have a captain (and assistants is desired) with a visible “C” (and “A”) on their jersey and indicating on the roster. 12. Teams are responsible for every action by ALL players. Disciplinary action may mean ejection from the game, the league, and/or loss in part or whole of the team’s default and registration money. 13. Stronger penalties are possible upon review of a player’s action by the Convener, Campus Recreation Coordinator and Referee-in-Chief. There is a 24hr grace period before discussing any stronger penalties.

14. Any player, in the judgment of the referee or convener, that is under that influence of alcohol or drugs will be automatically suspended for the remainder of the season and will have no reimbursement. This rule could also result in a team fine which is determined by the Convener and Campus Recreation Coordinator. 15. NO ALCOHOL!!! THIS IS A UNIVERSITY SANCTIONED EVENT, THEREFORE ANY CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IS STRICLY FORBIDDEN ACCORDING TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT AND WILL BE DEALT WITH, USING THE MOST SERIOUS PENALTIES AVAILABLE. This means that no alcohol may be consumed before, or after the games in the dressing rooms or in the arena. Tailgate parties will also not be tolerated; the police will handle those. There are no warnings. If found guilty there may be a fine given to the captain of the team; it will be to the convener and Campus Recreation Coordinator’s discretion. 16. THERE IS TO BE NO FIGHTING OR ATTEMPTS TO INJURE. THIS TYPE OF ACTION WILL RESULT IN EJECTION FROM THE CURRENT GAME AS WELL AS FURTHER EXPULSION FROM ALL CAMPUS RECREATION EVENTS, WITH NO REIMBUREMENT. 17. FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. FIGHTING IS SUBJECT TO LEAGUE EXPULSION DEPENDING ON THE CONVENER’S AND REFEREES DISCRETION. 18. Because of running time, penalties shall therefore be: Minors: 3 minutes Majors: 7 minutes Misconducts: 13 minutes 19. Three penalties in one game are terms for ejection from that game. Note: Minors, Majors, and misconducts count as one penalty. A double minor is to be counted as two penalties. 20. Major stick infractions, and major boarding calls will result in a 7-minute major, and a 1 game misconduct. 21. Icing will automatically be called when the puck crosses the goal line. 22. Players cannot go on the ice surface until the rink attendants close the end doors of the rink. Violation of this is a 3 min penalty. A second offence is grounds for removal from the league. 23. At any point, the Convener and Referee-in-Chief have the right to remove, or enforce the appropriate penalties, of any player who may be in violation of these rules. 24. Players using another person’s student card/name will result in the whole team being ejected from the league. 25. No derogatory comments are to be made on or off the ice. This will be an automatic misconduct; which is 13 minutes. Verbal abuse of officials will result in an automatic misconduct. 26. Please bring both a light and dark jersey to every game. 27. Players can only participate on one team in the league. However players may play in the NBC and Coed league. Revised Nov 2015
28. If a player removes their helmet, gloves or hits another player they will automatically receive a 3 game suspension and the incident will be under review. Captains will be notified of the penalty once there is a decision. Co-Ed Variation: The following are additions/deletions for the Co-Ed Division. 29. There must be at least two members of the opposite gender on the ice at all times. Any team that is unable to ice the required number of females or males shall forfeit that game. 30. Rule #1 is modified to include No Slap Shots. Penalty: Face-Off in the violating team’s faceoff circle. Repetitive violations by the same player can result in unsportsmanlike penalties.
