About 80 per cent of China's patent applications are filed by small companies. About 40,000 IP applications are filed in India annually and 85 per cent of these are filed by multinational corporations & 6000 are filed by SMEs. Mr. Jacob Kurian, Senior Legal Expert will address IMCI on IPR and how to protect ideas, business concepts and ensure that they are not stolen, copied or reproduced by others. Brief Profile of Mr. Jacob Kurian, Advocate, M/s Kurian & Kurian Mr. Jacob Kurian, is a practicing advocate in the Madras High Court, in Chennai, India and has been in active practice for the past 30 years in civil law with specialization in Intellectual Property Rights. Mr. Jacob Kurian is a B’Com (Hons) graduate from Shriram College of Commerce, Delhi and an LLB from the Govt. Law College, Mumbai. Mr. Kurian is an advocate in the Bar Council since 1982. He started his career with Mr. Govind Swaminathan, Senior Counsel and thereafter joined M/s King And Partridge before finally joining his father Mr. P C Kurian in law practice. Mr. Jacob Kurian has 30 years of experience and expertise in handling all types of civil, corporate and Intellectual Property matters and is the legal advisor for and advises a large number of Indian and Foreign corporates. He has experience in appearing before the Madras High Court and before all the Trade Marks Registries and before the Intellectual Property Appellate Board. He is also regularly engaged by lawyers and law firms in India and abroad in connection with their legal work, in India. Mr. Jacob Kurian is a member of INTA (International Trade Mark Association) and has considerable expertise in the handling of Intellectual Property Law matters. Mr. Kurian made presentations at various seminars and conferences both in India and Abroad and has also familiarized a batch of District Judges in Tamil Nadu with the latest developments in IPR Law.
