Indoor Games for Kids to Burn Off Energy 1. Pillow fight, but we use throw pillows. They’re smaller and less likely to break something or cause an injury. Make sure the kids do this where there isn’t furniture with sharp corners to bump into. 2. Jumping endurance test. See how long they can jump up and down on one foot. 3. Jumping distance test. If you have a long hallway or long open room see how far the can jump. Use masking tape on the floor to mark off the starting point. 4. Dance party. Turn up the music in the living room and let them dance. Take a video so they can see how silly they look. Kids love to watch themselves on video. 5. Balance test. The old-fashioned walk across the room with a book on your head trick. Can they do it? How far can they make it before the book falls? 6. Crab walking race. How fast can they walk like a crab to the end of the room and back? 7. Balloon bop. It isn’t safe to toss balls in the house, but you can bat balloons around. The goal is to try to keep the balloon off the floor as long as possible. 8. Pop bottle bowling. Set up empty two liters like bowling pins. Use a light weight ball to knock them over.

Ways to Prevent Misbehavior *Change the Setting. Put dangerous items, breakables, and valuables out of the reach of infants and toddlers. For preschoolers, have places to play that are safe and worry free. *Provide interesting playthings. Playthings prevent boredom and misbehavior. They need not be expensive or store bought. *Make clear rules. The fewer rules you make the better. They should be reasonable. They should be enforced consistently. *Be flexible. There are times when rules can be relaxed. Rules need to change as the child grows in ability and responsibility. *Set a good example. Children imitate those around them. They learn what they live. *Give choices. When you can, give children a choice of several things to do. *Get the child’s attention. Say the child’s name, touch them, and look them in the eye before you talk to children or give them instructions. *Give warning time. Tell children 5 to 10 minutes ahead of time that you want to change their activity. Let them get ready to go on to something new. *Spend time with your children. Children need undivided, personal attention regularly from their parents. 3
