MSP PTC News The MSP Parent Teacher Club is sponsoring a Family Yoga Night at MSP on Thursday, March 9 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at MSP. Cost is $5. Tickets can be purchased in the MSP main office or at the door. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel. The PTC is looking for new officers. Treasurer and secretary are open for the 2017-2018 school year. Please attend our March 14th meeting at 7:00 pm at MSP if you are interested. The PTC is also planning the end of the year 8th grade dance. We would love to have your help. Please come to our March 14th and April 18th meetings to help out. All meetings are at 7:00 pm at MSP. Donations: If you have not yet made a $10 donation to the PTC, please consider doing so now. The PTC has drastically reduced “sales” type fundraisers in favor of family donations. Checks can be made out to MSP PTC and brought o the MSP main office.

Ms. Olmstead and Mrs. Shea-Lyons welcomed guest speaker, Tyshaunda Wiley, from Prudence Crandall Center, Inc. to work with 8th grade students. Ms. Wiley presented a program called Safe Dates that helps bring more awareness to teens regarding healthy relationships and teen dating violence.

Important Information about Physicals for Current 6th Graders Physicals: All students in grade 6 must have a health assessment as per Connecticut Law. The Feb. 1, 2017 deadline has passed, so you must know if the form is not complete or is not turned in prior to the start of the next school year, the student will not be allowed to begin school as a 7th grader. Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions about this requirement
MSP Art Club at Work for the Community Students in the MSP Art Club created ceramic Valentine's Day gifts for the residents of Apple Rehab.

SAVE THE DATES: MSP Band Concerts: The MSP Bands will perform in the upcoming Plainville Town-wide Band Concert on Wednesday, March 29th at PHS. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. Along with the 200 members of the MSP Bands, the elementary and high school bands will also perform. A grand finale will be a highlight of the evening! All are invited! The annual Outdoor MSP Band Concert is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28th, at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the MSP Bus Loop. The Plainville Memorial Day Parade is the final MSP Band performance of the 2016-2017 school year. Students will march on Monday, May 29th. More information will be sent home with the band students. Kids in the Middle - February Plainville Youth Services’ Kids in the Middle (KIM) program has had a great start to the new year. Students participating in our “Adopt a Grandparent” program played games and made crafts with the residents of Jerome Home. A group of KIM volunteers also visited Plainville Early Learning Center and completed a winter themed activity with their new friends. Students are looking forward to returning to both sites. Kids in the Middle will be collecting toiletries and other essential items for Brian’s Angels Homeless Outreach. The donation drive will run from March 1st – March 23rd. Collection boxes will be in the atrium. For a list of what you can donate, check out posters around the school or email Amy Kievit for more details. Library Happenings Grade 6 Read-a-Thon: Grade 6 ELA classes are participating in a read-a-thon in collaboration with MSP's library. Last month, students voted on which organization they would like to support and 53% of students chose Doctors without Borders. Students are asking parents and friends to sponsor them for $1.00 or more for every 50 pages they read between February 1 and April 1. Students are responsible for keeping track of their reading. Money collected may be turned into the library during homeroom, lunch, or enrichment, any day from April 2 - 6. At the end of the read-a-thon, the homeroom with the most number of pages read and the homeroom that raises the most money will both be rewarded. Students will vote on the reward from a number of options. With 178 grade 6 students, it would be marvelous if every student were able to read a minimum of 50 pages, and donate at least $1.00. That would make a fine donation to a worthy cause. Please consider supporting your grade 6 child. Any questions - please send an email to Mrs. Lynch. Read Across America: MSP's library will have its annual Read Across America celebration on Thursday, March 2nd. NEA's Read Across America is a fun, celebratory way to promote the enjoyment of reading. It is a wonderful opportunity for students, teachers, librarians, administrators and parents to share the joys of reading aloud to each other. Over 275 students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will participate as readers or listeners. Teachers, administrators, and school and Plainville Public Library staff will join the celebration as well, reading aloud picture books, short stories and poetry. Mrs. White's 8th grade FACS classes will provide beautifully decorated cupcakes using this year's diversity theme of Dr. Seuss around the world. The MSP library is very grateful for the generosity of Gnazzo's, which will donate water and snacks for all readers and listeners. Additional thanks go to Snyders of Hanover which will generously donate pretzels for all participants. If your child is interested in participating as a reader or listener, please ask them to contact their social studies teacher.
