ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT

In addition to the survey of the Victorian AI ecosystem, a report was requested detailing the impact AI could have on the Victorian Economy. Mel Lau completed the report and has summarised the Key Findings and Recommendations on the following Slides

ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT Key Findings ● ● ● ● ● ●

Globally, it is estimated that tech giants spent A$26b to A$39b on AI in 2016 alone (dominated by digital giants such as Google and Baidu) UK pledged A$3b in AI and robotics research. US federal government invested into unclassified AI in 2015 alone is A$1.3b. South Korea recently announced its investment of A$1.1b on public-private AI research center. Australia could potentially deliver a significant economic dividend of A$2.2 trillion and create millions of jobs utilising AI technologies by 2030. Australia has the largest land size per capita and the highest labour cost among major economies (e.g. G20 countries). With its ageing population, Australia is a country that needs autonomous systems the most. Australian job market will be negatively affected by AI the least, making Australia a great landing pad for AI startups. 24 UNCLASSIFIED
