Minutes 1/2/2015 (60) Greeting from the Chairman The Chairperson: a) Welcomed all members to the Faculty meeting Vol. 2/2015 (60). b) Congratulated new appointments: 1. Miss Ooi Ai Yee as the new HE22 Head of Program starts from 12 March 2015 until 12 March 2017. 2. Mr. Shariff Umar Bin Shariff Abdul Kadir as the new representative for “Jawatankuasa Perpustakaan UMS”. 3. Dr. Anath Rau Krishnan as the new Coordinator for PLUMS (Undergraduate). c) Thanked the former HE22 Head of Program, Mdm. Noor Zainab Bin Tunggal on her contribution for the last two years. d) Strongly suggested that faculty meeting should be held once a month (the last week of every month).

Minutes 2/2/2015 (60) Confirmation of the Minutes of Meeting – Vol. 1/2015 (59) The members were informed and agreed to accept the previous Minutes of the Faculty Meeting Vol. 1/2015 (59) with some minor amendments: a) Members did not agree with 4/1/2015 (59) Teaching and Learning; 1. c); a tutorial class with a 30 students per class are still not possible at this point of time. 2. g); the sentence, “senior lecturers were recommended to be appointed as a chief invigilator to reduce the academic dishonesty cases” was amended to “ experienced lecturers were recommended to be appointed as a chief invigilator to reduce the academic dishonesty cases”.

IV.

Minutes 4/2/2015 (60) Teaching and Learning The members were informed that: a) The first and second warning absent notices will be signed by Deputy Dean (Academic & International). Only the third one will be signed by the dean. b) Warning notices can be delivered by the academicians. c) Tutorial class with 30 students per class has not been agreed. d) Program core lecturers can and should start

teaching faculty core

courses

commencing this coming academic year. e) Faculty core courses lecturers should be rotated (commencing this coming academic year) and supported by the program-based lecturers. f) Academicians were required to update their total tutorial hours to Mr. Mohd. Fazi Bin Mohain. This matter was so important to avoid academicians who were not so keen to break their tutorial classes further. g) There were 26 cases of academic dishonesty involving 24 students. All students were found guilty after the investigation. h) Academicians were asked not to simply change the examination schedule. i) UMS was in process of tightening the punishment for academic dishonesty cases. j) Experienced academicians were recommended to be appointed as chief invigilators to reduce the academic dishonesty case. k) HE21 & HE23 academicians were required to send the final examination papers the external evaluator. l) Academicians were requested to help their colleagues in invigilating the midterm examinations.

V.

Minutes 5/2/2015 (60) Research and Innovation The members were informed that: a) Academicians

should

have

proposed

their

research

work

for

RAGS

and

FRGS

considerations. b) The conference funding was not enough for all UMS lecturers (i.e., RM385, 000 for 800 lecturers). c) Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation) requested all lecturers to send supported documents for the forthcoming MYRA assessment. d) The new postgraduate room were located at Podium 1D and 1F (ready). e) There will be a meeting with Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) on 26 March 2015 at 3 pm.

Minutes 6/2/2015 (60) Conference The members was suggested by the chairman to go to a conference in bulk (group) as the faculty would really need to promote itself.

VII.

Minutes 7/2/2015 (60) Student Affairs/PMFKAL The members was informed that: a) There will be an organisation restructuring - from PMSPKAL to PMFKAL on the 1st April 2015. b) Thanked to Mr. Ricky Chia Chee Jiun for his previous role as committee advisor. The newly elected advisor was Mdm. Nurul Izzati Abdul Razak. c) All on-going activities has been approved by the faculty. d) The shop reserved to PMFKAL must be fully utilised.

e) 535 FKAL students will be involved in the APK this year (which will be held on 8 – 9 May 2015). f) Some thought that students’ stalls for APK should be more creative rather than just selling food stuffs. Students should come out with more fresh ideas. A meeting between FKAL and PPIB will be held to discuss this matter as well as the contents of the subject. Mr. Samsulbahri will lead the discussion.

Minutes 8/2/2015 (60) Postgraduate The members was informed that: a) Thus far, there were 8 postgraduate students that have been approved. Some have registered and some have not.

Administration

The members were informed that: a) Mdm. Nor Zulaiha Binti Sapran was welcomed to the faculty. She will be helping Dr. Lee Hock Ann. b) Six (6) new graduate fellows were (expected to leave for the MSc. and Ph. D studies by October, 2015): 1. Tan Siew Luen – HE19 (Financial Management) 2. Siti Rahayu Beli – HE19 (Corporate Finance) 3. Nurshila Ahmad – HE22 (Econometrics) 4. Jaludin Janteng – HE20 (Quantitative Methods) 5. Erlindah Raymond – HE20 (International Banking) 6. Amierah Ratna Binting – HE23 (Islamic Economics) c) There were 8 infra-red pointers available for those who wanted to borrow them (for teaching and learning).

d) Deputy Deans (Research and Innovation) and (Student Affairs) will share the same room (at the General Office). e) Senior Assistant Registrar, Assistant Registrar and Assistant Administrative Officer have moved to former Deputy Dean (Academic and International)’s room. f) FKAL will remains with 11 non-academic staff. m) There were only RM250 in FKAL trust fund. Academicians were strongly encouraged to forward their brilliant ideas on how to generate more savings for the faculty. Academicians were asked to come back with a short course proposal by the end of the month. For example, Basic Accounting for SMEs, Basic Finance, Branding for Business etc.. n) Ms. Noor Muafiza Binti Masdar (Lecturers in Financial Accounting) will report duty on t1st April 2015. o) Balance in FKAL Vot : 7. B21000 – RM 41,156.21 8. B27000 – RM 12,751.30 9. B29000 – RM 24,950.00 10. B29000(2) – RM 115,174.70 p) Letter of Appointments to the newly appointed “Jalinan Industri” Committee Members. q) Mr. Hazmi Dahlan has joined the HE23 Program.

Other matters

The members were informed that: a) UMSKAL has been given two semi-detached bungalows for as a transit house in Kota Kinabalu. Further reservation details of these houses were not yet known. b) Dr. Mohd. Rizal suggested that the work flow process can be captured by his students. c) Academicians were required to send a paragraph about themselves for the faculty website.

d) Not enough printer ink cartridges/toners. The faculty was advised to purchase more ink cartridges/toners for the academicians who have been working so hard for the university. e) One of the proposed venues for the 2015 Retreat was Niah, Sarawak.
