Office / Board Room 6:00 pm 11-9-2016 MEMBERS: Andy McCandlis (President), Max Ray Shrable (Vice-President), Ken Cotter (Secretary), Darick Brown, Shawn Batterton ADMINISTRATION: John May (Superintendent), Andy Burden (Elementary Principal), Vicki Hurst (High School Principal), James Kerr (Assistant Principal), Charolette Bridges (District Treasurer) The Annual Report to the Public for the Viola School District was presented to those in attendance at 5:00 pm. Immediately following the Annual Public Meeting, the regular meeting of the Viola School Board was called to order with Andy McCandlis, Max Ray Shrable, Shawn Batterton, John May, James Kerr, Vicki Hurst, and Andy Burden attending. • •
A motion was made at 5:40 pm by Max Ray Shrable and seconded by Shawn Batterton to approve the minutes and expenditures from October. The motion was approved 3/0. A motion was made at 5:43 pm by Shawn Batterton and seconded by Max Ray Shrable to hold the 2017 senior graduation on Thursday, May 18th at 8:00 pm. The motion was approved 3/0.
Due to an increase in the minimum wage in Arkansas to $8.50 per hour that takes effect on January 1, 2017: • A motion was made at 5:50 pm by Shawn Batterton and seconded by Max Ray Shrable to move Anita Yates to step 2 on the classified salary schedule. The motion was approved 3/0. The board then received an update on the possibility of selling advertisements on buses and putting a permanent tint on windows in the gym to completely block out the morning sun. They also agreed to meet at 6:00 pm in December and consider permanently changing the start time for meetings to 6:00pm when all members are present. The meeting was adjourned at 6:03 pm.
