MESSAGE From the Director of Communication, Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Pastor Kemar T. J. Douglas FOR COMMUNICATION DAY 2014 "Communicate Love" Dear Brothers and Sisters Indeed, digital technologies have brought about fundamental shifts in patterns of communication and human relationships; this is especially evident with the young who have grown up in this digital society. The extraordinary potential created by new technologies is a gift to humanity and we must endeavour to ensure that the benefits they offer are put to the service of God and the betterment of mankind. While the development of new technology is a rapid one, it is important that we don’t shy away from using it. As more and more persons are becoming connected, the Church has a mandate to point these individuals to the One that we must all be connected to, Jesus Christ. The accessibility of smart phones, smart watches, tablets and computers, have demonstrated our need to be connected and for instant communication. The best way to deal with the advent of technology in worship is not to ban it and call it evil or a distraction, but to educate individuals as to what constitutes reverence in the house of God and solemnity on His Sabbath, even as they use the technology. The more an individual falls in love with God the greater their respect and awe for who He is will be. I would like to conclude this message by asking that we all bring the witness of our faith, the values and principles of the Bible to new media. I posted on my facebook page that ‘What we desire is someone to know us completely, love us completely and to forgive us completely, but the only one who can truly do so is God’. So I implore you to share Him because human hearts are yearning for a world where love endures, where unity is built, where truth is meaningful, and identity is wrapped up in a cause. Why not help by lifting up Jesus who will draw all unto Himself. I salute and thank those who have worked tirelessly in the Communication Department of this local church, the secretaries, technicians, writers, photographers and promoters. I know it is not said enough, but the work you do is essential to wellbeing of the church community. Keep up the good work. God bless you and do ‘Communicate Love’.
