Or https://www.facebook.com/standrewsrefugeeservices?fref=ts Project Description: Psychosocial Services StARS’ Psychosocial Services (PS) assists refugee adults and children in meeting their basic needs. PS focuses on health, mental health, and social needs, such as shelter, security, and community support. StARS’ psychosocial services provide individual psychosocial support to adults and families; individual psychosocial support to unaccompanied children and youth (UCY); and runs an intensive education and psychosocial program for unaccompanied children who are unable to access formal education. Alongside individual case management, psychosocial group activities are provided where people can find additional support. The Medical Access Program (MAP) provides services to StARS’ clients, working to improve access to medical information and services to address unmet medical needs. Role Under the supervision of the Medical Access Program Coordinator, and in close cooperation with all psychosocial and other StARS programs, the Medical Access Program Facilitator is responsible for developing and implementing community health strategies for STARS clients and refugee communities, in particular through community health workshops. The MAP Facilitator is also responsible for providing training and medical resources for StARS staff in MAP and other programs. The MAP Facilitator works to develop and expand StARS’ doctor’s network, building and maintaining relationships with medical service providers, and ensuring that the necessary administrative processes for managing this work are in place. Responsibilities Community and group work  Assess the needs of refugee communities on health information, through coordinating with other StARS programs (in particular the Psychosocial Community Outreach Officer), as well as meeting with community leaders, conducting surveys with community members, and other strategies as appropriate.  Develop and facilitate information sessions on relevant health topics for refugee communities and for other StARS programs.  Foster cooperative relationships with refugee communities by delivering health information sessions and workshops with a focus on the most vulnerable community members.  Develop strategies to address refugee community health needs.  Develop and maintain health related teaching materials for refugees to support awareness raising efforts and capacity building of communities on health issues.  Participate in further community-based work as necessary.

Networking and Advocacy Under the supervision and guidance of the MAP Coordinator:  Serve as a liaison with StARS partner organizations and service providers in order to improve access to medical services for refugees.  Review, maintain and expand StARS network of medical contacts and develop effective referral systems.  Identify new medical service providers that can be of support to StARS’ clients, develop and maintain relationships with them.  Think creatively and proactively, and search actively to find alternative solutions for our clients in response to limitations in medical provisions. Team support and training  Provide guidance to psychosocial and StARS staff regarding assistance to clients with unmet medical needs.  Provide training to staff in relevant medical topics ensuring staff have basic information on common medical needs of refugees in Cairo and on existing services.  Facilitate training to Medical Access Caseworkers and volunteers, ensuring that the Medical Access Program operates effectively and efficiently and provides comprehensive and fair assistance to clients. Individual client support  Manage a small caseload of individual clients with unmet medical needs  Conduct medical needs assessments with adults, youth, and children from different refugee communities to identify their needs and recommend necessary intervention.  Establish action plans to address health issues in partnership with the client.  Refer clients to appropriate medical service providers, including via public health institutions and the StARS doctor’s network.  Advocate before medical services for the provision of medical interventions to clients in need.  Follow up on all necessary actions planned with the client in a timely manner and actively searching for solutions to respond to client needs  Ensure that clear, accurate and comprehensive records of all client contacts and interventions are maintained and that follow up work is carried out promptly and efficiently.  Develop resources for staff in other psychosocial programs to provide information and support to clients with medical needs  Respond to medical needs that present through the psychosocial drop-in clinic, including directly meeting with clients and providing advice to psychosocial caseworkers staffing the drop-in clinic.  Respond to medical emergencies of clients accessing StARS services Administrative duties  Maintain accurate records on client caseload, referrals, and follow-up activities.  Create and maintain relevant medical listings and records of all services developed and keep up to date medical services information available for psychosocial staff.  Maintain effective communication with Director of Psychosocial Services, psychosocial program coordinators, and all staff.  Participate and cooperate in general office needs and other duties as necessary. Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will be a committed health professional, with knowledge and understanding of medical services in Cairo, and experience in health provision to refugee or other vulnerable populations.

Qualifications and experience of the ideal candidate  Fluency in both oral and written English is essential.  Fluency in spoken Arabic, as the main language of health providers in Cairo, is also essential. Fluency in written Arabic is desirable.  Knowledge of other languages spoken by refugee populations in Cairo (Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya) is an advantage.  Background in a relevant health discipline (medicine, nursing, public health, etc.) required.  A minimum of one year of experience working in health provision. Work experience with refugees or other vulnerable populations preferred.  Knowledge of health services in Cairo.  Experience in training and workshop facilitation in health related topics is an advantage.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Strong work ethic with a commitment to respect for clients, and to be diligent in responding to their needs.  A proven ability to work in a team, to cooperate and communicate effectively.  An understanding of the impact of different cultural factors on professional work and an ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.  Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and meet deadlines.  Maturity and discretion, able to work with and maintain confidential information. Working hours: The Medical Access Program Facilitator is expected to be at work for 40 hours per week, between the hours of 9am and 5pm from Sunday to Thursday. Longer hours, evening and weekend work are sometimes necessary. Work will be conducted either in StARS premises, or outside of the office for external meetings, doctors visits and accompaniments, and in refugee communities and centers. Salary: Starting salary for Medical Access Program Facilitator is 3600 EGP per month, increasing to 3900 EGP per month after a three month probationary period (plus 125 EGP/month medical allowance; 50 EGP/month pension).
