4th Sunday of Lent Sometimes, when you say or do something cute as a child, it comes back to haunt you as an adult, especially if you have several older brothers who will not let you forget. A favorite family story is about my youngest brother. When he was a child, he admitted that every day at lunch in school, he would kiss his homemade, chocolate chip cookies before he ate them. When asked why, he replied that he knew they were made with lots of love! Lent is about making sacrifices and atoning for sins, and becoming better people of faith. Good Lenten practices remind us of our baptismal calling to be better people of faith. But isn’t it really about loving others? Isn’t the root of most of our sinfulness a failure to love? To make up for our sins and failures, to follow Christ more closely, we need to love better, more completely, and more unselfishly. Love can restore relationships, heal past hurts and mend broken hearts and spirits. Love is the antidote to sin. The best expressions of love are concrete actions that express our concern and affection. People need to experience our love for them. Just thinking it or saying it doesn’t help a whole lot. Real love brings us together with those who need us and want us to be close to them. Acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, offering a helping hand or a listening ear makes a big difference. Even a batch of chocolate chip cookies—or a cup of water—can let others know how much we care. ~James Gaffney ,St. George Publishing [email protected]

March 11 ~ Fourth Sunday of Lent ~ Laetare Sunday Oftentimes at sports events, concerts and the like, we see people holding a sign “John 3:16.” Do we consider the truth of that text when we see it or do we see it as nonsense? This very text is presented to us in today’s Gospel. It is given to us to remind us of the extent of God’s love. All are included in God’s vast inclusive love. St Augustine puts this truth this way: "God loves each one of us as if there was only one of us to love." As your Lenten journey continues take a few minutes to ponder God’s all-inclusive love for you and how you will respond to that love. 3

Steubenville East will take place at the UMass Lowell campus (Lowell, MA) on 7/13/18 7/15/18. Steubenville East gathers teens together from all over the New England area to experience the lifegiving nature of relationships with Jesus and others. There will be music, games, and activities that allow teens to learn about the Catholic faith and their role in the world around them. These conferences take place around the country, and we are fortunate that one is hosted so close to Reading! Please come to our 1 hour information meeting on Mar 12 at 7pm in the Parish center.

Each Friday of Lent you are invited to walk the “Via Dolorosa” with Our Lord and worship Him at the foot of the Cross as his Blessed Mother and the Beloved Disciple did. .

As the Catechism teaches, Adoration is homage of the human soul to the King of Glory and respectful silence in the presence of the ever greater God. Eucharistic Adoration is an extension of Mass and serves to deepen our hunger for Communion with Christ and the rest of the Church. Ladies Sodality will be present to lead the Rosary.
