Pre-study report for the training program “Nurturing Leadership for Business Growth” customized for RTI by Professor N M Agrawal

1.0 Programme Objectives The two-day interactive workshop is designed for entrepreneurs and managers from small and medium size organizations interested to further enhance their leadership competencies. Leaders are responsible for creating business performance and also take responsibility for professional growth of the team members working along with them. The workshop focuses on conceptual knowledge, skills and competencies to help entrepreneurs and technical professionals to grow as leaders and contribute towards business growth. The programme will be broadly designed around the following four modules: A. Leadership Module • Growing up from being an entrepreneur / technical specialist to a leader. • Four major roles of a leader: being a visionary; being a change agent; being a coach and being a brand ambassador. • Leadership style for Effective Team Work • To develop ‘Leadership Pipe Line’ by identifying talent and helping them to learn leadership processes. • To develop ‘visioning’ skills B. Financial and Accounting Module • Understanding Financial Statements – Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statements. • Working Capital Management • Cost of Capital and Time Value of Money C. Human Resource Management (HRM) and Performance Management • To know the team members in terms of their competencies and aspiration and create possibilities for them to use their unique strengths in context of their roles. • To provide a clear definition of performance and facilitate team members to create performance. • To link performance with rewards and recognition. • To enhance ‘Role Efficacy of team members’ by practicing role making, role centering and providing role linkages. • To ‘coach the team members’ by being aware of their competencies and commitment D. Developing business plans – marketing plans, financial plans and organization plans Defining sources of finance and getting investment for the business

E. Technology and Business Performance • Discuss the technology development and how it can be used for enhancing business performance. We plan to have a panel discussion on the topic 2.0 Profile of Participants The Programme is designed for entrepreneurs and professionals working in small and medium size family enterprises. 3.0 Duration of the Programme The programme is a two-day residential programme scheduled on February 24-25, 2017 at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. The participants should plan to reach IIM Bangalore by February 23rd evening. 4.0 Define Learning Needs and Role Diagnostics Participants will be facilitated to get in touch with their learning needs by completing an ‘Organizational and Role Diagnostics Questionnaire’ and a ‘Visioning Exercise’. Immediately after registering for the program, the participants will receive two questionnaires to be completed by them. It will require about 2 hours to complete the two questionnaires. The questionnaires should be sent to Prof. N M Agrawal at IIM Bangalore at [email protected] by February 5, 2017. Mobile: 9742221301. 5.0 Pre-Course Readings Participants will be provided pre-course readings requiring about 5-7 hours of work. The preparatory work will help us to cover all the planned material for the program in two days. 6.0 Learning Methodologies The Programme will use experiential learning processes such as case methods, group discussion and exercises for enhancing the effectiveness of learning. The programme will provide time and space for individual and group reflections to capture learning from the programme. 7.0 Transfer of Learning from Classroom to Work Situation The Participants during the programme will reflect on a regular basis and capture their learning. They will also develop specific action-plans to be implemented back home in their respective work setting.

Brief Curriculum Vitae of Prof. Narendra M. Agrawal Faculty Programme Director Dr. Narendra M Agrawal is the programme director for the workshop. He has been a Professor till recently and is now an Adjunct Professor at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and an independent management consultant. A copy of his brief curriculum vitae is enclosed herewith.

Narendra M. Agrawal is an Adjunct Professor in OBHRM area at IIM Bangalore (He superannuated as a full professor in July 2014). Prior to joining IIMB, Professor Agrawal worked for 24 years with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Professor Agrawal’s areas of research interests are essentially organisation focused and multidisciplinary in nature. His current research interests are human challenges of knowledge organizations, innovative learning processes in high performing Indian organizations, leadership and change management, developing leadership pipeline, managing knowledge workers, creating learning and innovative organizations, and designing effective training systems He has conducted more than 500 management development programmes in India and abroad. He has been a British Council Scholar. He is visiting faculty at St. Gallan University, Switzerland, Gothenburg University, Sweden; AESE, Lisbon, IESE, Madrid , PUC, Chile and PIM, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Padmini Srinivasan Associate Professor - Finance & Accounting Chairperson, Post Graduate Programme in Management Chairperson, Finance & Accounting Padmini Srinivasan has varied professional interests in teaching, research and consulting in the areas of Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Corporate Governance and accountability. Prior to joining IIMB, she worked in the industry for more than 14 years in various positions in Treasury, Planning, MIS and Accounting. Suresh Bhagavatula Assistant Professor Chairperson, Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Development, NSRCEL Professor Bhagavatula’s research interests are in two partly overlapping domains – Entrepreneurship and Social Networks. In Entrepreneurship, his interests are in both low and high technology firms in India. Within the Social Network domain, he is interested in understanding the influence of social capital on performance of entrepreneurs and teams. His research work has been published in the Journal of Business Venturing (JBV), Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice (ETP), Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (SEJ), and IIMB Management Review.
