HOME READING • The

aim of Home Reading at BHS is to provide an opportunity to practise essential reading skills. We believe that success in reading results from partnerships between students, parents and teachers. The Home Reading Programme has been carefully devised to enable students to succeed in reading.

• The Home Reading Diary • Frequency of changing • Reading for pleasure! Colour system- This year we have a colour banding system - relieve learning to read as being viewed as competitive pressure aiming to reach the next number rather than for enjoyment. Each colour spans 2-3 levels from the previous number system. Colours linked to a reading age. (Testing) As with other home learning tasks, teachers keep records of the frequency of your child’s borrowing. * retell, comprehension, reading aloud, discussion, evidence, Reading Eggs

Homework

Every Wednesday we will be giving out homework and this is due back on the following Monday. (balance)

There is a homework schedule in the front of your child’s homework folder. (UOI, Maths, English) Children are expected to read every evening and will have spellings to learn. (SaCaWaC) Say and Cover and Write and Check We also advise that they practise their times tables regularly and use Mathletics and Reading Eggs
