Barrel-Aged Headcracker 2016 - Mad Fox Brewing Company, Falls Church, Virginia (8% ABV): An English-style golden Barleywine with English Pale and German Pilsner malts to lend a light biscuit flavor on the palate. This brew is hopped with the English hop varietal, First Gold to lend just enough bitterness to balance the malt notes and aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels.

2. Barrel-Aged Slobberknocker 2015 - Mad Fox Brewing Company, Falls Church, Virginia (9% ABV): A big, bold and hoppy American-style Barleywine. This full-bodied, deep, reddish hued brew has a rich malt backbone supported by the bold hop flavors of Citra hops. This strong brew was aged for six months in Catoctin Creek rye whiskey barrels.

3. Slobberknocker 2016 - Mad Fox Brewing Company, Falls Church, Virginia (10.4% ABV): A big, bold and hoppy American-style Barleywine. This very full-bodied deep reddish hued brew has a rich malt backbone supported by the bold hop flavors of Citra hops including a final dry hop addition.

5. Hog Heaven 2012 - Avery Brewing Company, Boulder, Colorado (9.2% ABV): This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop lover's delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced with a caramel-like malt finish.

6. Old Howling Bastard Barleywine 2013 - Blue Point Brewing Company, Patchogue, New York (10% ABV): Old Howling Bastard is made with English 2-row barley and Vienna malt. It has strong, malty, caramel flavors balanced by lots of hops.

7. Devil’s Milk 2013 - DuClaw Brewing Company, Belair, Maryland (11% ABV): Full bodied and fruity with a viscous texture and a great intensity of malt and hops.

8. Old Ruffian Barleywine 2014 - Great Divide Brewing Company, Denver, Colorado (10.2% ABV): Old Ruffian is a hefty, hopforward Barleywine. Seemingly mellow at first sniff with its subtle fruit aromas and complex caramel sweetness, this mahoganyhued ale quickly shows its true character marked bold by its grapefruit, pine, and floral hop flavors and massive hop bitterness.

9. He’Brew Jewbelation Reborn 2013 - Shmaltz Brewing Company, Clifton Park, New York (17% ABV): Brewed with 17 malts and 17 hops. Strong chocolate and treacle flavor with a very warm alcohol trail.

10. Brigantine Barleywine 2016 - O’Connor Brewing Company, Norfolk, Virginia (10.7% ABV): Aromas of lemon and pineapple are paired with flavors of light toffee, orange zest and grapefruit. This brew will warm you up on the frostiest of Winter nights.

11. Vermilion 2014 - Perennial Artisan Ales, St. Louis, Missouri (10.5%ABV): A big, rich English style Barleywine that has tints of ruby around the edges of its brown body, with a toffee, caramel, toasted pecan sweetness that is kept in balance with a smooth, alcohol warmth, and slightly fruity American hop note.

12. Old Crustacean Barleywine 2012 - Rogue Ales, Newport, Oregon (11.5% ABV): The cognac of beers, this is a beer designed for sipping. “Old Crusty” is brewed with eight ingredients, Great Western Harrington, Klages, Hugh Baird Carastan and Munich Malts, Chinook and Centennial Hops, free-range coastal water and PacMan yeast.

13. Bigfoot 2012 - Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Chico, California (9.6% ABV): This award-winning Barleywine boasts a dense, fruity bouquet, an intense flavor palate and a deep reddish-brown color. Its big maltiness is superbly balanced by a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness. The classic American Barleywine.

14. Old Horizontal 2015 - Victory Brewing Company, Downingtown, Pennsylvania (11% ABV): Massive amounts of barley malts, combined with fresh harvest American hops make this Barleywine aromatic and spicy on the nose. Floral, fruity aromas slide into a honeyed malt depth with lingering sensations of candied and citrus fruit.

15. Monster Ale 2012 - Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn, New York (10.3% ABV): A magnificent burnished copper color, and an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops, and fruit. This Barleywine has a soft, warming complex palate and a spirituous finish.

16. Lower DeBoom 2016 - 21st Amendment Brewery, San Francisco, California (10.5% ABV): A powerfully balanced American-Style Barleywine packed with citrusy Pacific Northwest hops. Chestnut brown in the glass with notes of toffee malt, fruitcake, toast, piney hops and more than a hint of alcohol.

17. Horn Dog 2016 - Flying Dog Brewery, Frederick, Maryland (11.5% ABV): Malty sweet with hints of brown fruits (figs, dates, raisins) and a warming alcohol tingle.

18. Dry Hopped Old Guardian 2016 - Stone Brewing Company, Escondido, California (11.4% ABV): The huge maltiness of this beer is only tamed by an equally prodigious addition of hops, including dry hopping with Pekkos hops, creating a rich, slightly sweet, caramel hued ale infused with assertive bitterness and bright fresh hop notes. All culminating in a pleasant dryness.

19. Tectonic Barleywine 2016 - Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company, Roseland, Virginia (11% ABV): English-inspired Barleywine brewed with six malts including; Crystal, Caramalt, Amber, Pale Chocolate, Maris Otter Pale, and Pilsner malts. Hopped with Northern Brewer, Fuggle, and East Kent Goldings. Amber hued, full bodied, with bready toffee notes.

6. Barleywine Ale 2015 - The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery, Farmville, North Carolina (11% ABV): A deep copper color with a slight red tint. Caramel and spicy hops. Malt dominated, but with a spicy hop aroma and flavor.

7. All Hands Anniversary Ale 2016 - Fairwinds Brewing Company, Lorton, Virginia (10.5%): An American Barleywine to commemorate our first anniversary. Over 3000 pounds of Pilsner, Caramel, Wheat and Crystal malts to bring a candy nose and rich caramel body. Assertively hopped with mash additions of Chinook hops and kettle additions of Warrior, Amarillo and Citrus.

8. 2022 LBS of Sin 2013 - Lost Rhino Brewing Company, Ashburn, Virginia (9% ABV): 2022 lbs of Sin is a Barleywine that plays with American Pale Ale, Munich and Crystal malts to create a full bodied beer with luscious curves. The erect hop profile from Chinook, Cascade and US Goldings causes a Flehmen response of impending ecstasy.

9. Millennium 2013 - Old Dominion Brewing Company, Dover, Delaware (11.5% ABV): This Barleywine that celebrates the breweries 1000th batch starts out herbal and hoppy and finishes with honey and a caramel malty sweetness.

10. Backburner Imperial Barleywine 2012 - Southern Tier Brewing Company, Lakewood, New York (9.6% ABV): A lightly sweet and warming ale that is reminiscent of dried fruit and rich grains.

11. All Access Barleywine 2012 - Starr Hill Brewing Company, Crozet, Virginia (10.5% ABV): Full-bodied brew with massive caramel malt notes reminiscent of burnt sugar and toffee. American hops from the Pacific Northwest more than balance the intense malt flavors, while dry-hopping lends a floral aroma.

12. Oaked Chessie Barleywine 2015 - Union Craft Brewing, Baltimore, Maryland (9.8% ABV): Oaked aged version of Chessie, packed with nearly 2,000 pounds of malted barley per batch and generously hopped in the kettle and in post-fermentation, this Barleywine-style ale has layers of complex flavor to wash over your palate.

13. Blithering Idiot 2014 - Weyerbacher Brewing Company, Easton, Pennsylvania (11.1% ABV): A deep copper ale with intense malty notes of dates and figs on the palate that follows a pleasurably malty aroma.

14. Grand Illumination American Barleywine 2013 - Williamsburg AleWerks, Williamsburg, Virginia (11% ABV): A complex beer with aromas of pine hops, tree sap, prunes, raisins and plums. The flavor is sweet malt balanced with resiny, grassy bitterness. A bold caramel tone balanced with a signature Amarillo/Cascade hops blend.

15. Old School 2016 - Dogfish Head Brewery, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (15% ABV): Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor.

16. Hell on Wood 2016 - DuClaw Brewing Company, Belair, Maryland (13.1% ABV): We aged a limited quantity of our award winning Devil’s Milk Barleywine in Kentucky White Oak Bourbon barrels to create a uniquely tempting new brew. Its citrus flavour and aroma, accented by notes of charred oak, vanilla and caramelized sugar give way to a palate dominating hop finish.

17. Old Foghorn 2016 - Anchor Brewing, San Francisco, California (9% ABV): The malty sweetness, fruitiness, unique hop aroma and high original gravity of Old Foghorn Barleywine Style Ale is to beer much as port is to wine. It is brewed based on historic English Barleywine methods, and is highly hopped, fermented with a true top-fermenting ale yeast, carbonated by a natural process called “bunging” to produce champagne-like bubbles, and dry hoped with Cascade hops.

Tenebris Rum Raisin Barleywine 2016 - Adroit Theory Brewing, Purcellville, Virginia (10% ABV): English-style malt sweetness, boozy flavors of molasses, raisins, figs, dates, brown sugar gives way to a sticky finish.
