Our Lord visits us with His salvation  (Luke 1­4)  Introduction  ● Our  God  visits  us  with  His  Salvation  ­  that  is,  our  Lord  Jesus.  The  word  “salvation”  comes  many  times  in  the  gospel  of  Luke  especially  in the first section.   ● Studying this book  will help us to see how God brings His salvation to  the  people.  This  will  encourage  us  to  be  a  part  of  His  work  in  this  world.  ● We  can  learn  the  heart  of  the  Lord  as  He  focuses  on  the  lowly  and  outcast in the society.  ● If  we  take  a  journey  with  our  Lord  Jesus  you  will  encounter  various  kinds of people to whom He offered His salvation.  ● This gospel is also called   ○ the gospel of sinners as many times the word sinner is used.  ○ the gospel of joy as many people rejoice & praise God.  ○ the  gospel  of  compassion  as  the  Lord  showed  compassion  towards many people.  ○ the  gospel  of  good  news  (1:19;  2:10;  3:18;  4:18, 43; 7:22;  8:1;  9:6; 16:16; 20:1)  ○ the gospel of the Holy Spirit (1:15, 35, 41, 67 etc)   ○ the gospel of salvation (1:69, 71, 77; 19:9)  ○ the  gospel  of  prayer  as  Luke  alone  mentions  on  ​ SEVEN  occasions on which our Lord prays:  ■ Our Lord’s baptism ­ 3:21  ■ Our Lord’s place of prayer ­ 5:16  ■ Before choosing the twelve disciples ­ 6:12   ■ Before Peter’s confession ­ 9:18  ■ Before teaching the disciples prayer ­ 11:1  ■ On the cross for the forgiveness ­ 23:34  ■ On the cross before He died ­ 23:46

● v14­17 ­ The mission & purpose of the life of John is given here.   ○ John  brought “joy”  &  “delight”  to  others.  Have  you been a joy to  any people?  ○ “John  was  great  in  the  sight  of  the  Lord”  ­  it  means  that  John  was  faithful  and  obedient  to  Him  like  the  OT  kings  were  described as “right in the sight of the Lord.”  ● V15  ­  Our  God  is  concerned  about  what  we  eat  and  drink.  We  are  bought by His blood. Our body belongs to the Lord (1 Cor 6:19­20).  ● Do  you  know  that  those  who  are  born  of  God  has  the  Holy  Spirit.  Otherwise we are not His children (Romans 8:9).  ● V16 ­ Our God uses us to bring back people to Him, not angels!  ● V17  ­  Our  God  uses  every  one  of  us  to  share  the  good  news  of  our  Lord Jesus and prepare the disobedient & unbelievers to Him.  ● Note  that God  didn’t  talk  about  how  John  will die at  the  young age at  the hand of cruel king.  ● V18  ­  Note  how  Zechariah  expresses  his  problem.  He  puts  himself  before his wife.  ● V19­20  ­  when  we  hear  the  Lord’s  voice,  please  don’t  harden  your  hearts.  ● V21­22  ­  Zechariah  remained  mute  &  deaf  but  he  served  the  Lord  until his time ­ Oh what a dedication! How about you?  ● V23­25  ­  Our  God  removes  all  our  shame  &  disgrace  by  giving  His  grace. Do you confess like Elizabeth and praise Him?  ● V26­45 ­ Mary and her praise  ● V46­56 ­ Mary’s song of praise  ● V57­58  ­  Do  you  have  godly  neighbors  and  relatives  with  whom  you  can share all your joy and sorrows? Our church has many people.  ● V59­63  ­  Husband & wife ­ do you speak the same language? Do you  call  your  children  the  same  way?  Do  you  have  the  same  vision  and  agreement on things in life for your children?  ● V64 ­ Note the first act of Zechariah after God’s healing ­ “Praise”
