The LSE-UCT July School is an exciting intensive academic programme offering the opportunity to study important social science issues relevant to Africa today, taught in English by world-leading faculty from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) in the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Cape Town. In July 2014 this two-week summer school-style programme will offer a range of exciting university-level courses considering the academic and policy responses to the major social science issues of the 21st century, all with relevance to Africa and its relations with the world today. The programme is taught by outstanding faculty from UCT, the leading university in Africa, and LSE, the world’s foremost specialist social science institution. It will attract students and professionals from leading institutions and organisations around the world, interested to learn about academic approaches to contemporary challenges, and to engage in discussions with motivated, diverse classmates providing unique personal perspectives. Participants take one intensive course for the duration of the two-week July School, typically comprising four hours of lectures each morning and a 90 minute class each afternoon – a total of 48 contact hours. The courses are assessed, including by a final examination, and successful students are awarded a certificate and transcript.
