CENTRAL PRIMARY ELEMENTARY

Central Primary Elementary earned an Excellent rating from the Ohio Department of Education for the 2008-2009 school year. The classrooms were alive with a variety of teaching strategies and learning communities to help our students meet their goals. Throughout the school year, Central Primary staff and students received many honors. We are a School of Promise, Blue Ribbon School nominee, and one of two Title I Distinguished Schools of the Year in the State of Ohio. In addition to academics the students worked hard on learning what respect looks like, sounds like, and feels like.

Green Elementary students were very busy during the 2008-2009 school year. The third, fourth and

GREEN ELEMENTARY

fifth grade students demonstrated what they had learned on the annual spring exams. The students and staff also are very proud of the program “Do Your Best”. This program provides incentives and rewards for students who get “caught” doing their best. Students helped raise money for the PTO by helping with several fundraisers. The money raised helped to purchase equipment for the new building. All students were given the opportunity to participate in at least one field trip, including visits to Slate Run State Park, Lind’s Fruit Farm and COSI. The students also had holiday parties at school throughout the school year. In the spring, all students had the opportunity to perform for their families in the areas of folk music and dance. Also held in the spring was the annual Spring Carnival. Students and their families enjoyed great food and fun while playing games and earning prizes. The PTO is a great asset to our building. They held three bookfairs throughout the year, which provided the students and their families an opportunity to purchase books and many other reading items. The PTO provided an inexpensive opportunity for students to purchase gifts for their families during the holidays. The PTO also sponsored the Fall Craft Show. Our building had many plays, puppet shows, demonstrations and magician’s come to expose the students to a variety of cultural development opportunities.

Hocking Hills Elementary had over 65% of its students meet their nine weeks behavior goal and the students were able to participate in the quarterly behavior goal celebration. Over 60% of students met their AR goal and over $2500 worth of AR prizes were given out during the school year. The PTO raised over $4000 in one fundraiser and once again sponsored the school carnival for every child in the building. PTO sponsored a class trip for every grade and students were treated to several programs featuring music, actors and education. The school worked very hard this year and were able to meet 8 out of 9 indicators for the state report card. The students and staff were honored when Representative Dan Dodd visited the school and presented the students with a flag that had previously flown over the Ohio State House.

CHIEFTAIN ELEMENTARY

Chieftain Elementary was alive with many activities throughout the 2008-09 school year. Students worked hard on their academic achievement, perfect attendance and meeting their behavior and accelerated reader goals. The awards for academic achievement and accelerated reader almost tripled from the first to the final grading period showing the hard work our students put into their studies. Our students learned about bus safety and fire safety. They also learned about proper nutrition and enjoyed programs on self-esteem and how to deal with strangers. The students collected $900.00 for Pennies for Patients to support leukemia research. Throughout the year the PTO sponsored several events including movie nights, Secret Santa, the BMX Show, the annual carnival, and provided funds for several student assemblies, field trip buses, admission fees, book fairs, and lots more! The Before/After Care program sponsored a Family Night for the students and their families. Thank you PTO and Before/After Care for these opportunities! Chieftain Student Council also provided support throughout the year by offering school supplies for sale, giving treats during testing and holidays, organizing activities during Red Ribbon Week, and taking responsibility for the school’s recycling program.

the new elementary buildings. We were busy throughout the year doing a variety of activities. Some of them included field trips to: Noll's Pumpkin Farm; Stuart's Opera House to see The Jungle Book and The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. We also performed our 2nd Annual Preschool Idol to a standing room only crowd. We visited a kindergarten classroom to see what that would be like for next year. We played at Mingo Park for field day and had beach day here at Sprouts. We also participated in our first American Cancer Society Relay for Life and raised over $450.00 for cancer research and participated in Pennies for Patients. We capped off the year with our own preschool graduation celebration. We had a very busy and fun year here at Sprouts!

LOGAN-HOCKING MIDDLE SCHOOL

The 2008-2009 school year at the Logan-Hocking and success.

Middle School was a year full of changes

Academically, according to our school report card, we received greater than one year of progress designation on our Value-Added Measure and for the second year in a row our school designation was Effective having met eight of our ten indicators. We continue to work hard at making this an excellent school and we feel certain that this will happen soon. The biggest news of all is that the Middle School has added over 17 classrooms and will be home to Grades Five through Eight in the 2009-2010 school year. This will give us a population of nearly 1,200 students making us one of the two largest schools in the area. Other highlights include: Pam Dotson was the Walmart Teacher of the Year; Spelling Bee Champion for 2009 was AJ Hauck; Successfully completed construction of the new addition; Science Olympiad Team placed 7th out 15 teams at the Regional; Math Counts Team finished 2nd at the Athens Regional; and Archery Team Qualified and participated in Nationals.
