A Publication of Children’s Fellowship of India

An Update from the Director

Meet Ankush Patel

No boy asks to be an orphan. No child becomes a victim of famine and disease by his own choice. Yet vast multitudes have been ensnared by circumstances beyond their control. They have been reduced to the lowest condition of poverty that one can imagine. 394 orphan boys have been admitted to the Children’s Fellowship of India during the past 15 years. Many were in danger of death at the time of their admission. Tragically, some were beyond help. Our work carries on because the need persists.

Ankush Patel comes from a very poor family. His mother is blind, and his father lost his life in an accident while returning home. Since his mother was unable to care for him, Ankush lived with his grandparents. Sadly, they are older and unable to care or provide for him. His mother could not care for him. It has been very difficult for him to survive. He was wandering in his village when one of the neighbors brought him to CFI for care and protection.

Praise God, He has given Ankush a home at CFI!

Children’s Fellowship of India is not just boys and buildings. It is more than a hedge against starvation or a shelter in the time of storm. It is a place where the friendless find friendship, the helpless find help, the hopeless find hope, and the lost find salvation. Having found salvation at CFI, many of our boys go forth as living examples of the transforming power of The Gospel. Witness for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, are the most important product of Children’s Fellowship of India. God allowed us to start the ministry of CFI in 2001 with 30 young boys. Today we have total of 243 children at CFI! Currently, we have a 16 young boys attending Bible College and 18 in technical school. In the past few months, we have admitted 43 new children. Our primary school encompasses grades 1 through 4 on the campus (grades 5 and up currently attend school nearby). Twenty two full time staff care for and share the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, everyday with these children. Things happens 24/7 because you care, you pray, and you give generously. Through your prayer and support, the American CFI Board is committed to following God’s lead to support and prepare future Christian leaders and Missionaries at CFI in India.

Thank you and God bless you, Philip Dongre

Faith in Action by Jayne Foehrkolb I first learned of Children’s Fellowship of India while visiting Talbot Bible Church in Easton, Maryland. There he was, Philip Dongre, pouring out his heart and soul. He was explaining why God led him to start this orphanage and how CFI is in need of more sponsors. He has never doubted that God would provide. Then I felt it…a tug at my heart as he showed the faces of the boys at CFI on the video screen. As soon as church ended, I went to his exhibit and said, “Sign me up!” I was excited to hear God that day, and knew I wanted to take that step in faith to support and sponsor a boy. I was inspired to send money to CFI faithfully, but I had no idea what else was to come. Lo and behold, I received a call from Philip the next January. “Would you like to come to India with me? Pray on it!” Of course he said, “Pray on it.” As I am coming to learn about Philip, he knew on faith that I would be going. After prayer and consulting with family, next thing I knew I was on a plane to India with Philip and a few others from Maine to see CFI with my own eyes. (I did have a slight panic attack 2 weeks before leaving when I realized what I’d agreed to do. Through prayer and sharing with Philip, God gave me peace.) A 13 hour plane ride, a 3 hour plane ride, and a 3 hour car ride later, I’d arrived. I could barely believe my eyes; what an amazing 40 acre facility built in a very poor region of central India! CFI is truly a result of “faith in action” demonstrated by churches from all over the world. Plaques on the walls told of sponsors from different backgrounds and churches who’d given for the purpose of following the scriptures’ commands to care for the orphan. Philip has told me many times he has never doubted that if God called him to it, He would also provide. Philip continues to rely on Faith for support to keep this orphanage running properly. I was especially thankful for all the donors when I saw the beautiful guest quarters with a real toilet - I was going on Faith that Philip was telling me the truth, and hoping it was not just a hole in the ground. Here are a few highlights from my trip: 1.

Spending lots of time with the boys each day during meals, prayers, church service, helping to teach them English and playing outside sports. I especially enjoyed watching the graduation of a CFI student from Bible College.

2.

Watching Vaibhav (pronounced Way-bo, the director) and Philip in the van speaking in their native language and giggling like school girls as we were driving. I was holding on for dear life, relying on God that I would make it home safe, as there are no street lights or stop signs.

3.

Meeting Genanne, Julie, and Jock, three amazing Christian people from Maine, that were kind enough to share their faith at CFI.

4.

Best meals ever…I love Indian food. (I also loved getting a break from cooking!)

5.

Time with the staff, teachers, house mothers, guards, and nurse to do devotions/lessons and grow in our love for Christ together.

6.

Finally the experience of mingling on the streets of India (hoping not to stand out too much, right?), learning about the culture, eating at the local restaurants, meeting the accountant, the engineer/architect, visiting friends of CFI, shopping with the locals, and so much more.

I am so thankful for all those who support and are dedicated to CFI. Your “Faith in Action” is seen widely throughout the campus and the resources you have provided are making an impact daily. Many lives have been touched, even beyond the boys. By visiting CFI, I have gained a personal connection. I now know exactly why I want to support this ministry and how my giving will impact this organization. Our donations will provide for future expansion as CFI continues to bring in more boys under God’s leading.

You crown the year with Your goodness and your paths drip with abundance. - Psalm 65:11 Office: 443-674-8336

INVESTMENTS AND DIVIDENDS

Quarter 4, 2017

By: Philip Dongre, Executive Director “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, …….whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me.” (Read Matthew 25:35 - 40) What we do with our money indicates where our hearts’ interests lie. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Dollars, dedicated to the Lord, are the best investments we can make. Dividends are multiplied because God adds His blessings to every sacrificial gift. Money is power. It can be a great blessing when put to good use. Misused, money can blight and blind. In our great nation of America, we have more money and a greater measure of material things than our parents ever dreamed. How wisely do we invest our money? Today, society is not aware of real need. Luxuries are becoming common place and worldly pleasures are increasingly demanded. Sadly, self-indulgence has become a common way of life. It gives only a momentary thrill but cannot bring lasting joy or satisfaction. Many of those who sponsor our orphan children have deep satisfaction in the truth of Matthew 24:34-40. In ministering to the “the least”, they are giving unto Him. To each sponsor and supporter of Children’s Fellowship of India ministry, I give my heartfelt thanks. Your contribution each month enables us to rescue a homeless orphan boy. At CFI he receives food, shelter, clothing, education and training for Christian service. We cannot think of any better investment. Save a child. Train a leader as a future missionary to his own country and to his own people. When you need a will, it is too late to make one. Express His will in your will! Remembering CFI in your will continues His work in India. This Christmas Season, remember your sponsor child. Consider giving a suggested Christmas gift of $ 15.00. Please do not send physical gifts as we buy gifts for each housed in our facility. Please send your cards to the CFI office by December 15th.
