Course Description: Students will develop a mastery of basic computer operations, develop proper keyboarding technique and work toward proficiency of the use of technology. Students will complete various projects using the Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Cybersmart curriculum will also be covered, which includes ethical use of technology systems, Internet safety and online searching techniques and evaluation. Online-collaborative projects will also be introduced to the students. Course Objectives: • Students will demonstrate efficient keyboarding techniques by typing at least 20 words per minute with 98% accuracy. Remedial practice will be required until the goal is reached. • Students will correctly format and key word processed documents, including full & modified business letters, memos, reports and tables. • Students will complete basic Excel spreadsheet documents, using formula calculations and graph creation. • Students will demonstrate cybersmart safety when using the Internet for class purposes. • Students will participate in online-collaborative projects and utilize word processing, spreadsheet and analytical skills. Course Expectations • Each student will be expected to be respectful, cooperative, and polite to all individuals in the classroom. • Each student will respect the hardware (printers, monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, etc) and you should never eat or drink near the computer, or unplug any parts of any computer without the teacher’s permission. • Work habits and utilization of time is of the utmost importance. Each student will be expected to be in the classroom on time and begin work immediately. Only the last few minutes of class time may be used to clean up the work area and return resources. •

Students should have a pencil and paper with them every day and any reference materials used should be cared for and returned to the appropriate place at the end of each class period.



Students will log off the computer and clean up their work area at the end of the class period. Students are expected to be problem solvers and should assist other students with projects when needed. If a student misses class, they are expected to make up missing time during academic study hall or after school.
