Middlesex School District Dr. Linda A. Madison, Superintendent March 23, 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians, “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” is on April 26, 2018. The Middlesex Borough School District has put together a learning plan for the students who choose to participate in a day of learning in the workplace. Because every school day is valuable, you should know that it is our preference that the instructional program is not interrupted. However, we do realize that many employers encourage parents to bring children into the workplace on this day. If you choose to take your child to your place of business, the goal is to:  Provide an opportunity for students to experience career options;  Encourage a relationship between school and work;  Enable students to experience and explore the world of work. Principals will excuse a child’s absence for the day as long as the child is prepared to share the events of the day with his/her classmates upon return to school. This excused absence is also contingent upon submission of the following documents:  Students must have their attendance verified by providing a certificate of attendance signed by the work official; and  Each student who participates must provide the school with a written description/agenda of the day’s activities (including a schedule of events); and  Students must be able to describe the company’s organizational structure (grades 6-12 only); and  Students must describe the responsibilities of his/her parent’s occupation in a brief essay (K-3 students may do an oral report to meet this requirement) by Friday, May 4, 2018. The supporting documents will be collected and reviewed by either the homeroom teacher or the selfcontained classroom teacher at each school. Of course your child will be responsible to make up all missed schoolwork. If you plan to take your child to work, you must send in a note before April 25th to inform your child’s Principal.
