Kimball modernization project update – 6/2/2017 Prepared on: June 2, 2017 Location: 3375 Minnesota Ave SE Ward: 7 Overall Project Budget: $51M Design Builder/Architects: MCN Build/hord|copland|macht Project Manager(s): Jamil Hamilton Project Status: Planning Construction Start Date: Fall 2017 Project Completion Date: Summer 2019 General Project Updates  The current building sits on a hill consisting of four wings—all of which sit at different elevations along the hill. In addition to the building’s facilities being outdated and classrooms lacking the proper square footage, much of the building is not ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible due to lack of ramps, lifts, and elevators.  We have already conducted a priced concept drawing of a new school, to see if it was possible to modernize with the current $17M budget. The results of the study proved that we needed $34M more to do the work. Currently DGS’s (DC Department of General Services) contracts and procurement office is taking longer than originally anticipated to award the job to the architect and contractor team (design-build team). Project Status  Summary of Work Completed From 5/19/2017 to 6/2/2017 o Delivery of Moving and Packing Materials Phase III + Warehouse IT cages arrived + Staff Packing Day o Site survey work – analyzing/measuring existing site complete o Attended Meeting with relevant ANC Commissioners: Allen (7E03), and Thomas (7E01), and Carson Carr (7F03) to discuss the Davis swing space on 5/22/17 o HCM Architects will refine and submit concept designs for DCPS/DGS feedback  Work Scheduled From 6/2/2017 to 6/16/2017 o HCM Architects collects and reviews DCPS/DGS/SIT comments on concept designs o Site field investigations—measuring the exiting conditions in the historic building and cafeteria wing (in case we need to retain part of that second building in the new Kimball) o Setting up meetings with regulatory agencies Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), National Park Services (NPS), the Department of Parks & Recreation, and the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) Swing Space Update  In the Past Month o Demo of walls ongoing (80% completed) o Lead abatement started (85% completed)  Over the Next Month
