• These are the required courses for eligibility to UC or CSU schools
80 minute Blocks/Classes
• Increase interaction with content • Longer periods allow time to develop and apply concepts • 40 minutes direct instruction mirrors college class lectures with the addition of promethean technology to provide “real-time” assessment • 40 minutes project-based learning the opportunity to apply content knowledge
ROAR Advisory
• 40 minutes daily • Advisory is the “built in” counseling program that provides the “competitive edge” for getting to college, while building the skill set needed to graduate from college • 5 days=5 foci - College-Going Focus: the opportunity to know, explore and prepare for what colleges want and expect for four years - International Community Service Focus: Gain the knowledge about our shrinking world - Local Community Service Focus: The opportunity to become a local community leader and give altruistically - Units of Study Focus: Emotional, social and academic growth concepts and discussions - Business Mentor Focus: The partnership of local businesses that guide, direct and inform students about the business world

• Facilitating opportunities for College and University Success (FOCUS) • Academic counseling program • Workshops that enlighten parents on the process to and through college and career
Project-Based Learning
• Learning knowledge and skills through an extended inquiry process structured around complex, authentic questions and carefully designed products and tasks • The assignments are project based (in specific subject areas as well as research competencies), globally connected (requiring the student to research and expose connections between cultures, communities, and systems), and, thematically integrated • High levels or critical thinking
Curriculum
• Competency matrices will drive the assessment of courses providing clear expectations of knowledge and skills • Competencies drive rigor • Common themes will connect courses. Themes increase relevancy • Skills needed for the 21st century global citizen will be woven throughout a student’s program of study • Teachers will participate in on-going professional growth focused on developing competencies and writing themed curriculum
