Kathryn Eurich Named 2015 ACF Northeast Region Student Chef of the Year St. Augustine, Fla., Jan. 27, 2015—Kathryn Eurich, student, SUNY, Delhi, New York, and line cook, Landmark Inn, Warwick, New York, was named 2015 American Culinary Federation (ACF) Northeast Region Student Chef of the Year, Jan. 17. She received the title following a competition during the ACF Northeast Region Culinary Salon held at Erie Community College, North Campus, Williamsville, New York. The ACF Student Chef of the Year Award, sponsored by Custom Culinary, Inc., recognizes an up-and-coming student who possesses a high degree of professionalism, culinary skill and passion for the culinary arts. “I am truly honored that I was given the opportunity to compete for the national title of Student Chef of the Year,” said Eurich. “It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get where I am today and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of chefs, teammates and family. I am excited to continue competing because of the amazing opportunities it offers.” At the regional competition, Eurich prepared two portions of a main dish that incorporated the assigned protein, Cornish game hen, for a panel of judges in 1 hour, 40 minutes. Her menu featured a roasted stuffed Cornish game hen breast accompanied by buttery potato, winter mushroom and vegetable medley, carrot-apple puree, apple cider-calvados sauce and black truffle. Eurich will now prepare to compete against her regional counterparts at Cook. Craft. Create. ACF National Convention & Show, Orlando, Florida, July 30-Aug. 3, for the national title and $1,000. Eurich is a third year student at SUNY in Delhi, New York, and serves as a teacher’s assistant for a culinary competition class. She is an active member of the campus’ culinary club and has assisted the school’s culinary hot-food team during competitions. Eurich received both a gold and a bronze medal in 2014 at ACF-sanctioned competitions. Her goal is to move to New York City after graduation and someday own her own restaurant. The 2015 ACF Northeast Region Culinary Salon was part of ACF’s Signature Series, which provides professional development for chefs and culinary students through educational programs, conferences and competitions.
