Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) AMERICORPS NEW AMERICAN INTEGRATION PROGRAM The NEW AMERICAN INTEGRATION PROGRAM (NAIP) is an AmeriCorps program administered by the MIRA Coalition, in partnership with English for New Bostonians. Up to 30 NAIP members will be placed at various community-based organizations across Massachusetts to address barriers to economic empowerment among immigrants and refugees by focusing their service on job readiness training (including ESOL instruction) and/or citizenship services (including application assistance and civics instruction). ABOUT JVS: Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) is a non-profit, non-sectarian agency that is one of the largest providers of workforce development services in Greater Boston. Our mission is to empower individuals from diverse communities to overcome barriers to employment and begin building careers and establish partnerships with employers to hire and train productive workforces. JVS’ Refugee Services has provided direct employment services to local refugee populations for over 40 years. These services are offered to refugees, political asylees, Cuban and Haitian entrants, certified victims of human trafficking, and other work-authorized immigrants. Services include job search assistance, resume and interview preparation, cultural orientation, pre-employment vocational English language classes, job placement and follow-up and post-employment support. Over 80% of our participants are hired per year and our 85% job retention rate is higher than similar job placement agencies in Boston. To achieve these outcomes, JVS partners with over 1,400 employers in hospitality, retail, agriculture, education, health care, sales, manufacturing, and business; and supports participants in finding and maintaining gainful employment that can lead to successful careers. SERVICE POSITION TITLE: Vocational Case Manager and/or Instructor SERVICE DESCRIPTION: This individual will provide job readiness services to low income, refugee and immigrant participants in JVS’ Refugee Services Program. Will gain knowledge about issues related to resettled refugees and political asylees and be committed to assisting them to obtain economic self-sufficiency through job search and training strategies. Works collaboratively with the Refugee Services staff to identify participants’ barriers to employment and address them, with the goal of creating opportunities that lead to successful job placement, retention and career advancement. SERVICE LOCATION: Boston, MA SERVICE SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 9AM - 5PM. Members commit to full-time service from September 5, 2017 through August 2018. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Vocational Case Manager and/or Instructor is responsible for providing any of the following job readiness services: o Vocational case management to reduce clients’ barriers to employment, with focus on helping participants enroll their children in free or low-cost child care so they can participate in job search programs and achieve job outcomes. This includes maintaining a client caseload, helping with child care
searches, communicating with child care providers and Child Care Resource and Referral agencies, and accompanying clients to appointments as needed o Vocational English as a Second Language instruction, including volunteer coordination and curriculum development as needed o Short-term training assistance and career coaching for JVS Vocational Training Partnership (VTP) programs: Food Service, Hospitality, and Bank Teller trainings. This includes student recruitment, instruction, coordination, one-on-one coaching, and job placement services. o Responsibilities will be divided among these core responsibility areas based on agency needs and applicant skills. Travel at least once/month for NAIP member meetings; Make a full-time, 11-month commitment
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred: related teaching and/or human services experience Preferred: bilingual/bicultural in any languages that reflect diversity of clients, including Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese. Excellent organizational and communication skills Interest in and commitment to national and community service Experience working with diverse populations High school diploma or GED equivalent 17 years of age or older Must be a US Citizen, US National or Legal Permanent Resident Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry both in Massachusetts and your state of residence upon application to our program, and a fingerprint-based FBI check
