June 9, 2015 The Hoke County Board of Education met in open session in the Board of Education Board Room June 9, 2015 at 6:30 PM. Present were Chair Rosa McAllister-McRae, Vice Chair Barbara Buie, Board members Della Maynor, Hank Richards and Irish Pickett. Also present were School Attorney Nick Sojka, Superintendent Freddie Williamson, Associate Superintendent Bob Barnes, Finance Officer Wannaa Chavis, Administrative Assistant Nancy Walker, Executive Director of Public Relations Jodie Bryant, Assistant Superintendents, Donna Thomas, Debra Dowless, Shannon Register, Executive Director of Student Support Peggy Owens and Executive Director of Transportation Tom Paris. Approved Amended Agenda Mr. Jim Simeon made a presentation to the board honoring Dr. Williamson as the 2016 Sandhills Regional Superintendent of the Year. Ms. Jodie Bryant presented Hoke High scholarships totaling $3,376,335.00. Ms. Jodie Bryant presented Give 5 – Read Five books totaled 40,227 district wide. Mr. Bob Barnes said that the Golden LEAF Foundation Grant in the amount of $ 1 million was awarded to the school system to support its proposed Pathways to Health Careers program.
