June 3, 2016 OT Parent Council Minutes

A letter will be sent out to parents about revitalizing the atrium with a link on cashless. Council suggested fundraising at the open house nights Council also suggested that the “Student Engagement Fee be renamed to the involvement fee”. Rose and Suzann will work together to put the fundraising points on cashless and fix the wording so that it is clear to parents what the athletic engagement and donation fees are for. Amendment: The letter wasn’t sent as the cashless wording had already been done mid-May by John Philips and Rose Brooks.

John Philips, Principal Update           

Prom was excellent. OFSA – silver girls OFSA boys are playing now. Tennis team – Sr Boys won silver. Athletic banquet will be held next Thursday. Wed June 29 commencement. The valedictorian will be Stephen Hon. Grade 9s will be begin reading Maus which is written by the son of a holocaust survivor. It covers race, gender and the holocaust. Teachers that are retiring include Marilyn Hume, Carine Burton and Gary Crocker. New hire is Dion Korkovic. The Aboriginal Studies class will be cancelled due to low enrolment. Three new business teachers still to hired. Peter Stevens will be the new principal.

Board Update – Ann Harvey Hope Super-Council – five high schools got together to share council ideas. Next Council Meeting: September 22 7:00 pm. Motion to adjourn Elizabeth Chalmers seconded by Wendy Soanes.
