On this Side of the Kingdom This coming Fall our parish will engage in a capital stewardship campaign which will assist both Saint Mary Parish and the educational ministries of the Archdiocese of Chicago to meet some of our longstanding needs. During the upcoming months I invite all in our community to pray and consider the Lord’s gifts in your life. God blesses us abundantly both on a personal level as well as with this community of Saint Mary. Each of us has a wonderful attachment to our parish because it is “home” for us in terms of our faith. It’s where we pray, where we learn more about our faith, where children grow and are formed in the image of Christ. Many more details and information will be coming to you about the details of our campaign, which is entitled To Teach Who Christ Is. Our parish needs will be spelled out as well as those of the Archdiocesan educational mission. Today I’m just wanting to introduce you to an incredible team of parishioners who will be leading us through this effort. They are stewards of our parish just as you are, and they believe in the sense of stewardship among all in our community. On the next page in this bulletin you’ll find the various parishioners and the roles they are playing in the campaign. I certainly thank each and everyone of them for their commitment to our parish community. This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. We are conscious that as we celebrated Pentecost last week that the Holy Spirit that descends upon the disciples and upon us draws us into the very life of the Holy Trinity, which is the very life of God. We share in the divine life of God. I think of my favorite line from the Magnificat, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior, for He has looked with favor on His lowly servant.” As the Holy Spirit draws you into the very life of the Trinity, your soul illumines and proclaims the greatness of the Lord. On this Father’s Day weekend we also recognize the gift of fathers and the gift of being a father. Really, we find how our fathers have reflected the life of the Trinity: our fathers helped to create us (as God the Father did); our fathers sacrifice themselves for our sake (as God the Son did); our fathers continually offer guidance and strength (as God the Spirit does). On this Trinity Sunday we are grateful for all that our fathers have meant in our lives, the spoken as well as the unspoken ways they have guided our lives. We are grateful for the sacrifices they have made which have brought fulfillment within their own lives. Happy Father’s Day to all! God’s Peace,

Father Dan

TRINITY SUNDAY

RE REGISTRATION PACKETS FOR THE

Trinity Sunday follows Pentecost and precedes the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) in a two-week transition from the Lent-Easter-Pentecost Season to the continuation of Ordinary Time. Having celebrated the death and resurrection of Jesus, and then the coming of the Holy Spirit, we now take time to consider from another perspective the immense reality of God and how this reality affects our lives. Today’s readings speak to us of the way God works in our lives, and how we experience God. The first reading invites us to be children of God, by accepting the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As such children, we can pray with Jesus, “Abba, Father”, which expresses an affectionate relationship as conveyed by the popular word “Dad’ or “Papa.” In this beautiful, simple, and concise summary, we see a pattern for our relationship with God. In the Gospel, Jesus instructs his disciples to baptize “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” He concludes this instruction with a promise to be with us always. In these readings, we have new insights into our relationship with God. We are to be disciples of Jesus and children of God. We share with Jesus his intimate relationship with God (“Abba”), and we can rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us in our journey of faith.

Retrouvaille...A Lifeline for Marriages

retrouvaille.org

The word Retrouvaille (re-tro-vi with a long i) is a French word meaning rediscovery. This program helps couples heal and renew their marriages and offers tools needed to rediscover a loving marriage relationship. Do you feel lost, alone or bored in your marriage? Are you frustrated, hurt or angry with your spouse? Are you constantly fighting? Have you thought about separation or divorce? Does talking about it only make it worse? Thousands of couples headed for cold, unloving relationships have successfully overcome their marriage problems by attending the program. Some couples come during the initial signs of a marriage problem and others are in a state of despair. The Retrouvaille Program consists of a weekend experience combined with a series of 6 post-weekend sessions. The tools learned here will help put your marriage in order again. The main emphasis of the program is on communication in marriage between husband and wife. It will give you the opportunity to rediscover each other and examine your lives together in a new and positive way. As many of our young people successfully graduate from our programs at the end of the school year, this creates a unique opportunity for a new group of young people to enter our residential programs to get the therapeutic, academic and daily support needed to succeed in life. Specifically, we have openings for youth (junior high - girls and boys) between ages of 11-14 . Mercy Home for Boys & Girls has 14 specialized residential program to serve the needs of youth between the ages of 11 to 21. Each child is placed in one of these residential programs based on their age and level of emotional and developmental needs. Because it is a voluntary placement, each youth must be motivated to live at Mercy Home and attend a community school. However, parental support throughout a young person’s stay is critical for her or his successes. We care for youth 24 hours a day, 7 day s a week, in a facility that is not locked-down. We help each child develop an individualized success plan that will guide their progress through our continuum-of-care. As they make progress against their success plans by meeting the goals and objectives we help them create, youth continue to advance through our residential program. For youth under eighteen years of age, a parent or legal guardian must make the referral. Youth 18+ can call us on their own. For more information about Mercy Home, how you can help, and to make a referral, visit us at www.mercyhome.org or contact us 312-738-7590. Page 14
