FAMILY MASSES : For the Summer months we will not host Family Masses . See you in the Fall ! RESTAURANT NIGHTS: Teens who received the sacrament of Confirmation this spring have the opportunity to eat at a local restaurant for FREE courtesy of St. Athanasius! This is simply a chance for friends to spend time together and support each other. Groups will be between four and eight teens and the restaurant nights will be on: Wednesday, 7/18 at 7pm Wednesday, 8/22 at 630pm Please contact Brad at least one week before the date if you and a couple friends would like to RSVP for a dinner. Then we will decide on a restaurant.

ATTENTION PARISHONERS Summer Changes On Fridays our office will close at 2:00pm

SEEKING LECTORS FOR MASS ! Are you a teen who has received the sacrament of Confirmation? We would love to train you to serve as a lector for Mass at St. Athanasius! The role of lectors is to proclaim one or all of the Bible readings during Mass, which helps us to better worship God, learn His role in our lives, and prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. If you have received Confirmation, you are eligible to serve our parish community in this way. We are hoping to train at least two or three teens by the end of the summer to start serving during Mass in the fall. Please contact or speak with Brad if you have any interest or questions about becoming a lector or teaching Rel Ed !

Ladies’ Prize Bingo SATURDAY , Oct 6th, 2018 at 6pm Potluck - bring food and drinks to share ! Great Raffles ! $20/ticket Limited amount of tickets are available in the office or through Cindy Canavan 781-872-0042 or [email protected]

From the Rel Ed Director To All Religious Education Families, Just an update about our Religious Ed program. To the best of my knowledge it will remain very similar to last years schedule for all classes and times. There may be a few minor time changes but nothing too vast. Also, I will continue to be the Director of Religious Ed for this year with the help of my very competent assistant Michele Barrette. I am so grateful to have her working with me . I f you have any questions about our upcoming program please contact me at [email protected] Lastly, Please consider teaching or volunteering as a table leader or at some capacity. We are always looking for helpers. If you have not yet registered please do so at this time. Teachers receive A 25% discount from tuition. Thank You for entrusting your child’s religious education needs to us here at St. Athanasius. Enjoy your Summer ! JoAnn Rossi DRE

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Have you ever stopped to consider all of the people who have done something for you that makes your life better? Parents, relatives, friends, neighbors, teachers, pastors, nuns, and strangers have helped us along the way. From them we learned life skills and life lessons that serve us all through life, everything from catechism to math, from tying our shoes to writing our résumé. We owe others so much for our success. So how do you say thanks? We can express our appreciation in so many ways. A written note, a conversation, or a small gift can acknowledge someone’s gift to us and offer thanks for his or her generosity. That assumes we know who they are, or can remember what they have done. But others have worked anonymously, or helped us at a time when we did not realize how good they were to us. So, the best way to express our thanks is to pass on the gift we have received. By teaching or helping or mentoring someone else, we honor those who have made a difference in our life, enabling their generosity to continue influencing and helping others. Be grateful for all that you have received and pass it on! ~James Gaffney, St. George Publishing

July 8 ~ Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time We hear in today’s gospel that Jesus returned to his home town but he did not receive a warm reception. In fact, people questioned his authority and were unwilling to believe his teaching. St. Paul also refers to the trials and hardships he encountered in his preaching. Despite the rejection they experienced, neither St. Paul nor Jesus did not back away from their mission. Pray for the grace to persevere in the work of being a disciple 4

St. Agnes/St. Athanasius Collaborative News

Parish Staff

What is a Collaborative? - A Collaborative is a structure within which several distinct parishes cooperate for the sake of sharing resources, to free up resources such as priests, deacons, staff and finances. The global effort of a collaborative is Evangelization. - Within the collaborative, St. Agnes and St. Athanasius will begin this collaboration by sharing a pastor. If there is to be a parochial vicar, we will share him as well. We will share our deacons, and some key members of the staff. - We will not combine finances. The parishes will not be combining bank accounts. Our offertories, sacramental records, and capital needs will all be tracked separately. If your offertory is given through St. Athanasius envelopes or through St. Athanasius online offertory program, it will go to St. Athanasius. - The collaborative is not a legal or canonical entity. It does not have a federal tax payer number. It does not have a bank account. It cannot own property.

ATTENTION PARISHONERS !!

Helpful info for all of us during our Transition. Under the Collaborative, there are only 2 priests assigned to Reading as opposed to the 3 we have had for the last 20 years or so. We are in a time of change: for most of us change is part of our daily lives but what the Reading Catholic community will be going through is TRANSITION, which is not easy. Please take a moment to Google :
