At the time, we had a Board and management team under AMG whose addiction to massive special assessments and maintenance fee increases to fuel their irresponsible and questionable spending was threatening to bring the association to financial ruin. I’m happy to say those days are over, especially in the last year with the addition of several new Board members who share my commitment to fiscal responsibility. The association has gone from Big Spending…to Big Savings – with over $1 million saved in 2014 and the first maintenance fee reduction in JOHN LABRIOLA decades. I’m running for reelection to make sure we stay on the right track and continue to find ways to save money so we can keep reducing maintenance fees while investing in important projects like the building renovations that are now underway. While the future must remain our main focus, it’s also very important that we address past wrongdoings. Our investigation into the actions of Jason Levy, the association’s former property manager under AMG, has acquired increased urgency in the wake of Mr. Levy’s recent conviction and incarceration for embezzling from another property. As the Board member who first blew the whistle on Mr. Levy’s misconduct before he and his company were fired last year, I can assure you that I will not rest until International Village is made whole. I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and have worked as a reporter and public relations professional. Cuando decidí por primera vez en 2013 postularme para la Junta Directiva, International Village era un lugar muy diferente. En esa época, teníamos una Junta y administración bajo AMG cuya adicción a los aumentos masivos en cuotas para soportar sus gastos irresponsables y cuestionables amenazaban con arruinar a la asociación. Me alegra poder decir que esos días han terminado, especialmente en el último año con la adición de varios nuevos miembros de la Junta que comparten mi compromiso con la disciplina fiscal. Los grandes gastos han sido reemplazados por grandes ahorros — con un ahorro de más de $1 millón en 2014 y la primera reducción en las cuotas de mantenimiento en décadas.
