Must hold valid 282 Special Education Certification Master’s Degree preferred 079 Certification preferred Must be knowledgeable of Maine and Federal Special Education Laws and Regulations Minimum of three years of teaching experience in special education Evidence of leadership skills Must be detail oriented

REPORTS TO:

Director of Special Services

JOB GOAL:

To provide leadership and coordination of Individual Education Program Team meetings and all components of the process. To support all students in special education in their pursuit of attaining goals on their Individual Education Program (I.E.P.). To promote effective team organization.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.

Serves as Administrative Designee and takes minutes for Individual Education Program meetings at designated levels (K-6 or 7-12).

2.

Reviews all I.E.P. Team minutes and I.E.P.’s ensuring completeness prior to sending the completed packet to the Special Services Office for processing.

3.

Assists in the coordination of educational technicians to best serve the students.

4.

Consults with and assists special education staff in meeting student needs.

5.

Participates in the coordination of special education staff and Kindergarten screening.

6.

Maintains a list of identified students and all their support services and provides the Director of Special Services with data and documentation of building needs.

7.

Maintains a current list of student placements, i.e., regular class, resource room, or self-contained.

8.

Develops and maintains student list of anticipated services from age 14 on.

9.

Provides required information needed to update monthly Add/Delete Medicaid forms.

10. Maintains current address of parents and updates Special Education Office as required by the Director of Special Services.

11. Attends weekly meetings with the Director of Special Services. 12. Meets on a regular basis with building special education teachers and related service providers. 13. Advises the Director of Special Services on issues related to student services, staff concerns, and other issues effecting the success of special education programs or individual students. 14. Assists in the coordination and delivery of staff development for special education staff. 15. Assures that special education case managers provide general education teachers with the most recent I.E.P. and modification lists for identified students in their classrooms. 16. Functions as liaison with school personnel and parents with the Director of Special Services. 17. Assists the Director of Special Services, as requested, with student and staff scheduling. 18. Participates in the interview process for new special education staff members, as requested by the Director of Special Services. 19. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits established by the negotiated contract between the School Board and the Lake Region Teachers’ Association. Work year will equal 182 days. This position may require up to ten additional days at either the beginning or end of the school year. These days will be compensated at a per diem rate.

EVALUATION:

An annual written evaluation will be completed by the Director of Special Services.
