Congratulations to Cole Kresken! Racine County Football Player of the Year

Wisconsin Parental Choice Program Catholic Central High School will be accepting applications for incoming new students in 9th – 12th grade for the 2016-17 school year for parents who wish to enroll their children at our school through the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP). The WPCP is a state-sponsored program that provides a voucher to qualified, low-income families so that their children can attend a WPCP registered school. In addition to the WPCP, there are two other voucher programs in the State of Wisconsin: the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program and the Racine Parental Choice Program. The Milwaukee and Racine Parental Choice Programs have been in existence longer, and operate under different rules and guidelines than the WPCP. A student qualifies for the Choice program on the basis of their residency and their family income. Students must reside in a Wisconsin school district, other than Milwaukee and Racine Unified School Districts. For the 2016-17 school year, a new student must have a family income at or below a prescribed amount.

Congratulations go out to Catholic Central High School Senior Cole Kresken, who was recently honored with a number of prestigious awards: •

The following link answers several questions pertaining to the WPCP, including income limits, application process, etc. The information can be found at: http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/choice-programs. We encourage any and all families who qualify to consider completing an application for this program.

He was named the Racine County Football Player of the Year, as compiled by the Racine JournalTimes; Awarded the 2015 Southern Lakes Newspapers All-Area Football Player of the Year; He was also named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Region first team on both offense and defense, along with earning honorable mention All-State and first team AllConference.

Catholic Central High School is committed to exploring all opportunities to make Catholic education accessible and affordable for all families who are interested. Entering the WPCP is one way that we can honor that commitment.

In addition to his many accomplishments on the field, Cole is an outstanding student-athlete, and maintains a 3.9 GPA in the classroom. He is looking at Augustana University, the University of Sioux Falls, St. Norbert and Illinois State to attend school and play football after Catholic Central. Cole is the son of Joel and Cindy Kresken from Burlington. Way to go Cole!

Who’s Who at Catholic Central

→ In 2005 he was presented the “Administrator of the Year” award by Wisconsin Association of School Councils. Dr. Sheldon has been serving Catholic Central for the past nine years and in many ways, he relates that these have been the sweetest of his experiences in education. He will miss the quality of care and kindness at the heart of the CC culture and the absolutely/positively awesome and spectacular students, wonderful colleagues, and involved parents. Dr. Sheldon wishes everyone to know how much he appreciates the regard he has been shown during his time here and is so proud to be finishing his career at CC! He also wants everyone to know that any success he has had in his career can be attributed to Mrs. Sheldon, the finest educator he has known. She is simply amazing.

Dr. Mark Sheldon, Catholic Central Art Teacher Here’s a quick background on one of our staff members. This month we would like to introduce you to Dr. Mark Sheldon: As some of you may have already heard, Dr. Mark Sheldon (and Mrs. Sheldon) will be retiring at the end of this school year from Catholic Central. Dr. Sheldon began his educational career as a swim coach in 1968 and has been working continuously with young people ever since. He has taught Art & Design to both middle and high school students; has served as coordinator for the Burlington Area School District Talented & Gifted program; was assistant principal at Burlington High School, principal at Karcher Middle School, and Dean of Students/Curriculum here at CC. Over the years he has accumulated the following degrees and certifications: Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree in Art & Design; Master of Arts in Education Degree in Education Curriculum; Principal Certification; and a Doctorate Degree in Education and Organizational Leadership. As a teacher at Burlington High School, he helped the Art & Design department attain the Wisconsin “Art Department of the Year” award in 1995. →

What will he be doing next? More time with family and friends, travels and gardening with Mrs. Sheldon, art work, animation, motorcycle trips, working on his old sports car, swim competition and writing/speaking on Frank Lloyd Wright. He says it will be difficult to stay away from CC in his retirement so expect to see old Doctor Sheldon peeking in from time to time. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our students, our staff, and our school from your Catholic Central Family! May you be blessed by the Lord with the same warmth and care you have given. You will be missed!

A true Renaissance man, Dr. Sheldon performed a song he wrote at this year’s Variety Show.

CCHS Registration for 2016-17

Variety Show 2015

Registration for classes for our 2016-17 school year will begin on February 8th. We are presently refining our Curriculum Handbook, and a final decision on all classes will be made soon. Aimee Reyzer, our Guidance Counselor, and Karen Schwenn, our Admissions Director, will be visiting our Catholic elementary schools in January to discuss course options and answer questions.

This year’s Variety Show featured singing, piano solos, comedy, & concluded with an outstanding video, created by Alexa Paleka and Sara Kurer, showing pictures of our Catholic Central staff from when they were in high school.

Lake Geneva Christmas Parade

Pictured above is Monica Regner singing Can’t Help Falling in Love while playing the ukulele.

A number of our Catholic Central High School students and parents took part in the Lake Geneva Christmas Parade on December 5th. Bethany Sousa and Andrew Fritz provided a second truck, decorations and a trailer with sleigh for Harvey. Dan and Mary Maus guided the whole crew through downtown Lake Geneva. A number of our students walked the parade route, waving the CC flag, carrying our CC banner and handing out candy to the kids on the parade route. Way to go!

Greg Sember sang and played piano to song he wrote entitled Just Not Over You Yet.

Know someone who may want to enroll or transfer to Catholic Central High School? Have them contact Karen Schwenn in our Admissions Office at 262-763-1510 x225

Laurel and Hardy? Abbott and Costello? No, the comedy team of Mr. DeLorme and Erin Schwenn kept the audience in stitches with their Christmas jokes!

Look Who’s On The Radio!

Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Tom Aldrich, Admissions Director Karen Schwenn, Principal Dave Wieters and CCHS School Board member and parent Dan Maus all took part in the WSFI 88.5 Catholic Radio’s Share-A-Thon. As part of the fundraiser for the radio station, all had the opportunity to speak at length about Catholic Central High School’s commitment to academic excellence, faith formation and leadership development in a smaller, family-oriented atmosphere, aka Topper Pride!

Katie Kubiak Signs Letter of Intent

Drama Club & Theater Class Performances Saturday, January 9th @ 7:00 pm Sunday, January 10th @ 2:00 pm Our Catholic Central High School Drama Club will be presenting Usher - a Totally Teen Comedy! The works of Edgar Allan Poe are bone-chilling, dark, depressing — nevermore, quote the raven! This skillful adaptation takes a grand mix of Poe’s writing and characters and weaves them together into a teen-savvy comedy loosely based on “The Fall of the House of Usher,” but with more laughs and a much brighter ending. After the bus breaks down on a dark and stormy night, a bunch of high school students on a field trip are forced to spend the night in the spooky house of Usher. But they’re not alone! The spirits of Usher ancestors haunt the halls, cursed to stay trapped in the house forever, unless someone helps the last surviving Usher find the will to truly live life. Additionally, our Catholic Central Theater Class will be performing Red Herring. The actors of this odd little play within an odd little play are dreadfully tired of performing cliché British murder mystery farces set in perfect little drawing rooms so they decide to take the drawing room our of the mystery and set it somewhere entirely different, the lavatory. Just when things are looking shamefully hopeless, one of the actors turns up dead – in the drawing room. Find out who is playing dead and who is really pushing up daisies in this semifarcical one act of murder, mystery and revenge. Performances will be Saturday, January 9th @ 7:00 pm, and Sunday, January 10th @ 2:00 pm. Both productions will be held in Topper Hall.
