NEWSLETTER JANUARY 24, 2016 Growing in Faith, Academics and Service

The mission of St. Bartholomew School is to educate students in a Catholic family atmosphere which promotes academic excellence, life-long learning and faithful service. NOTES FROM MRS. HECKMAN Last week felt very short thanks to the holiday, the snow day, and the two-hour delays. Hopefully we’ll get a break from the terrible winter weather for at least a few days or so. Due to the second snow day that we had on Wednesday, January 20th, we will now be in school on Thursday March 24th in addition to Good Friday, March 25th. Please keep in mind as you are making Spring Break plans that the first week of Spring Break (3/14-3/18) is protected, but the second week (3/21-3/25) is made up of snow make-up days. Due to the shortened week, Student Council is extending the Food Drive through all of next week. ANY canned goods are appreciated. We are trying to collect at least 2016 canned goods. Please help us reach this goal! Catholic Schools Week will be from January 30 through February 5. A schedule of all activities is attached in this newsletter. We need a lot of students to help with Masses on January 30 – January 31. You should have received an email through Jupiter last week asking for student volunteers. Please email Mrs. Schwartz at [email protected] if your child is willing to help out at any of next weekend’s Masses. New Family Open House: We will be holding our annual New Family Open House on Sunday, January 31 st from 12:00 to 2:30pm. Please invite any friends, family members, neighbors or parishioners that you think might be interested in St. Bartholomew School to join us that day. Teachers of all grade levels will be in their classrooms, various groups will have information about their organizations, we will have registration packets available including information about financial aid, and tours will be conducted by our Student Council members. In addition, we will have bilingual tour guides available for anyone who needs them. School Administrators will be available to answer any questions new families might have about our curriculum, assessments, registration, financial aid or anything else. If you are a newer family and you would like to attend to learn more about various activities or meet upper grade teachers, please feel free to attend also! If a family you recommend to St. Bartholomew School registers, then you will earn a $50 credit on your 2016-2017 tuition. Registration News: Current families will be registering for the 2016-2017 school year from Monday, February 1st – Friday, February 5th. (Registration will open to parishioners on Monday, February 8th and open to the public on Monday, February 22nd.) A registration packet will be sent home with the youngest or only child on Monday, February 1st. A $50 deposit for each child is required with registration to hold your child’s place. This deposit will be applied to the 2016-2017 tuition. In order to register the week of February 1st, your family must be registered with the parish and have a current stewardship card on file with the parish office. In addition, your FACTS tuition account must be current and your deposit accounts must not be in the negative. Please call or email Kathy Anderson if you have any issues with your FACTS account or have questions about registration. Reminder: In November, parishioners were asked to turn in stewardship cards for 2016. If you are a parishioner, please be sure to turn in a stewardship card in order to maintain your status as a participating parishioner for St. Bartholomew School tuition purposes. Also, please check your FACTS deposit accounts to make sure that all of your children’s accounts are not in the negative.

Tuition Rates for 2016-2017 Here are the 2016-2017 tuition rates that have been approved by the St. Bartholomew School Commission: 1 child 2 children 3 children 4 children 5 children

Catholic Parishioner $4050 $6750 $8400 $9025 $9300

Non-Parishioner $6150 $10775 $15850 $16300

In addition, for those who pay tuition on a monthly plan, we are planning to have next year’s tuition payable over 11 months (August – June). This decision was made by our School Commission so that tuition the following year will be paid over 12 months from July through June to better align with our school and parish’s annual budget cycle. Registration for current school families will take place February 1-5, 2016. At that time, you will be able to indicate if you need any type of financial assistance including Indiana State Choice Scholarships (vouchers), SGO Scholarships, or other parish assistance. Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) This week’s Theme: Hot Spots Classrooms have been continuing to work on the unit on Hot Spots. These are places where bullying is more likely to occur. Students can wear their t-shirts on Fridays as Spiritwear. This year’s bullying prevention slogan: Take a stand, lend a hand. PLEASE PRAY:  For Karen Heaton, mother of Mrs. Jenny Carlson (PE Teacher) and grandmother of Kyle Carlson (7th Grader), who underwent heart surgery last week.  For Paulina Nieto, sister of 8th grader Jorge, and daughter of Mrs. Maria Nieto who works for the parish.  For Kathy Davis-Shanks, Pastoral Associate and Director of Adult Faith Formation for St. Bartholomew Parish, who continues in her treatment for breast cancer.  For all those who have been affected by terrorist acts around the world.  For our veterans and for the safety of men and women in our armed forces and their families.  For Mrs. Hirsch’s father, Tom Lear, and for Ms. McGovern’s father, John McGovern, who both continue to recover from strokes that they suffered.  For strength and healing for all in the St. Bartholomew Family battling life threatening illnesses such as cancer and for their families and caregivers.  For Father Clem Davis and Father Andy Syberg who serve our school and parish.  For all those preparing for a religious vocation as a priest, religious woman or missionary.  For vocations to the priesthood, religious life and missionary field, and that St. Bartholomew Parish and its families will provide a nurturing environment that fosters and supports these vocations. Linda Balzano 812-565-3215 [email protected] PTO NEWS 50/50 RAFFLE TICKETS COMING HOME -- Youngest and only students are bringing home 50/50 raffle tickets to sell for the spring raffle. Please purchase or sell the tickets that were sent home. We are hoping to sell enough tickets that our payout is at least $5,000. If every school family sells their allotment of six tickets, the prize will be $7,500! Since you didn't win last week's Powerball Jackpot, THIS could be your chance to win big money. Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50, and you can sell until the April 16 No Tie Affair, where the winner will be announced. This raffle is open to ANYONE - parishioners, family, friends, co-workers... anyone who wants to win thousands of dollars! If you need more tickets, send a note in with your child to Lisa Keefe/PTO, or email her at [email protected], and we will send more home with your child. Thank you for supporting our school and your children's education.
