Happy New Year Everyone, Well… I had a great visit with a few of you last month, and hopefully the ones that came to hear me speak got a little something out of it. One of the topics that I spoke about, for those who couldn’t attend, was on product recalls and the importance of looking online to see if any of your recent purchases or some of your existing things have been recalled. There are many recalls at all times put out to the public from manufacturers, The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, Health organizations, or any other government agency directly involved. Checking on any recalls is an easy task if you have a computer at home with the internet. Just google the word “recall” and a variety of different sites come up, some have many recalls and the dates they were recalled, and some more specific, like an Automobile company recalling vehicles. Years ago, there was a recall on some stand up floor lamps that were very popular at the time and were in approximately 5 out of 10 homes. The recall on the lamps was because it had a faulty base, and when the lamp fell over, they would start fires! This is one example of many, but will hopefully get all of you to be more aware, and know what’s at risk. Again, Thank you for the warm reception and hospitality while I was in Vankoughnet in December, and Thank you to Lindsay Lima for including me in the event. My New Year’s resolution is to continue being Fire Safe and educating my neighbors to do the same… What’s yours? If you have any questions, call me at (705) 645-8258, or email me at
[email protected] Thank you, Michael Peake, F.P.O.
