High School Happenings YEAR OF THE CHARGER! January 4, 2017
School Wide Announcements Please mark your calendars: Our Home and School is sponsoring a Skate night on Tuesday, January 10th, from 6:30 – 8:30pm at Palace Skating Rink. The cost is $5 per family for Home and School members and $10 per family for non-members. Come out and Have some fun!
Midterm Examinations: Midterm exams will be administered in classes beginning on January 23, 2017 and ending on February 1, 2017. There will be regular dismissals on these days and the schedule will remain the same. Report Card conferences will be held by appointment on Thursday, February 9th from 4 pm – 6pm.

Juniors and seniors interested in a trade and/or labor union? The Finishing Trades Institute (includes programs for unions such as glaciers, painters, drywall, etc) is offering a VIP program that allows juniors and seniors to begin their training during high school. See Mrs. MacConnell for more information and for an application.

Duke University is offering a summer academy for students in grades 9-12. The programs are on topics such as global leaders, entrepreneurs, and more. Female students who receive free or reduced lunch, remember- there are funds available for you for programs like this!

Jewish high school juniors- Jevs Human Services is offering a free college prep program for you! SAT prep, help applying to college and for scholarships, and you receive a financial award upon successful completion. Start the application at www.jevshumanservices.org/lasko-program.

Girls in grades 7-12 interested in working in a trade, such as carpentry, electrical, painting, etc. are welcome to attend MAGIC (Mentoring A Girl In Construction) Camp this summer! This is a free one-week camp for girls to explore the basic skills in these areas, and to have a woman role model who is successful in the field. For applications, go to NAWICphl.org.

Working papers are available on Thursday afternoons ONLY from 2:56-3:15pm. Students can get an application outside of Mrs. MacConnell’s door. Applications must be signed by a parent and accompanied by proof of age (birth cert, state ID, passport, etc.

Last Thursday, a group of 11th and 12th grade students took a trip to Orleans Technical Institute. They were able to learn about all of the hands-on programs offered at this local school.
Technology News Congratulations to the following Tech 1 students who passed the Microsoft Word 2010 certification test. This credential enables the students to tap the full features and functionality of Microsoft Word 2010, resulting in increased academic and job performance, individual differentiation and personal confidence. Lady Chargers News Over the Winter Break the Lady Chargers' played in the Franklintowne Winter Invitational. We started the Invitational off by beating Little Flower who we lost to 5 days earlier. We then faced the host team, FTC, the next night and defeated them in the championship game, 4737. Taylor Fritz was named the tournament MVP.
