Juneau AK Music Matters Not Just a Music Program
!
JAMM recognizes the intellectual and social benefits of instrumental music by making it accessible to all children. Through group ensemble and peer mentoring, every child is a recognized asset and a contributor to his or her community.
!
“Watching the 1st graders yesterday was an overwhelming confirmation of how engaging instrumental instruction teaches a wide variety of skills including reading, listening, respect, leadership, self-confidence, teamwork .... the list goes on.” ~ Mark Choate, Former Juneau School Board Member
Nationally Recognized
Despite JAMM’s location, it continues to receive international and national attention as a teachertraining site and inspiration for other in-school models across the country. PBS in New York City, in collaboration with the Longy School of Music of Bard College, filmed JAMM as the pilot of an eight-part multimedia professional series on El Sistema-inspired Music Education in the US, scheduled to air this fall.
