Finlayson Elementary Students – Seizure Smart School - On December 4 , Hinckley and Finlayson Elementary students participated in the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota Seizure Smart Program. The program is designed to provide an understanding of epilepsy and seizure recognition and response, which better equips schools in providing the best possible environment for students with seizures.

Dirk Nelson, Catalogued many historical records of the district and saved them digitally. Corrilla Clark and the entire cast of “The Miracle Worker”. The fall play was excellent. Audrey Storlie for her presentation on Type 1 Diabetes to 9th grade students. Football All-District players- Lavonne Kroschel, Travis Visser, Trevor Johnson, David Hopkins, Micah Nelson, Jordan Chose, and Kolten Furey. Sixth grade students for running concessions during junior high games and conferences. This is helping fund Wolf Ridge for chaperones. Town and Country Insurance for continued support of athletics via donation to hardship fund. Ms. Sikkink and Ms. Bengtson for the excellent FES Music program.

The students put on a great performance, and we were happy to see so many people come out and support our programs. Semester one is rapidly coming to an end. With the end of the semester will come finals week. Students in grades 7-12 will have finals in their classes the week of January 15th. These finals will count toward the student's semester one grade. All classes should have some test or project this week. Snow Week is the week of January 29th through February 2nd. Check the school website as we get closer to the end of January to see all the events that will be happening during this exciting week. Principal’s Post –Elementary Schools Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that it is 2018 and this school year is almost half over. Where does the time go? The elementary schools had a positive turnout for fall conferences. We appreciate your support in educating your student. I would also like to thank you for your support of the th fundraisers for the Wolf Ridge field trip through Club’s Choice. The 6 graders will be doing a th swim-a-thon fundraiser on Friday, January 5 . All proceeds will go toward sponsoring the March week- long stay at Wolf Ridge Environmental Center. Watch for more information. The end of second quarter is January 19. Report cards will be going home the following week with the students. If the report card does not make it home please contact the school. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report card please contact the classroom teacher. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. Educating your child must be a partnership between home and school for it to be successful. Please make sure you keep in contact with the school and visit our website to keep up to date on other activities that are occurring in the school. We always look forward to working with you and your children. **Our lost and found is growing. If your child is missing an item please check the lost and found at the school.

One Book, One Community 2017 Selection: Neither Wolf nor Dog

Mystery Quilt A new year is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start planning another Mystery Quilt! This year we are giving you a size option from a throw to king size. We are breaking the clues up into three groups. 10” squares will be needed along with a solid color for background. (Once you register you will get fabric requirements. Scraps will work!) New this year, we have a video link available so you can get help part way through the pattern! We will once again do this as a sew on your own with a gathering show and tell in March. (We have resources to help you, if you have sewing dilemmas.) Show and Tell date is Monday, March 12.

The One Book, One Community's purpose is to share the joy of reading, the life of the mind and the free exchange of ideas through a common book. An invitation is extended to the entire community to participate in the One Book, One Community program. Copies of this past year’s book “Neither Wolf nor Dog: On Forgotten Roads with an Indian Elder ” by Kent Nerburn are for sale from the Comm Ed Office for $12. We will gather in the high school media center on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 6:30 pm for film viewing with a brief discussion.

MHSRC 55+ Driver Improvement Class - Refresher Course Gene Carlson - MN Hwy Safety Center instructor For those that are 55 yrs. and over and have taken the initial class before. The class will explore changes in laws, the latest vehicle technology, and provide you with easy-to-use defensive driving tips. In addition, we will explore traffic safety and accident prevention. The classroom course allows for a 10% reduction in your insurance rate (check with your local insurance agent). Please pre-register at least one week prior. COMMUNITY EDUCATION Hinckley Open Gym – Grades 4-12 Enjoy Sunday evenings in open gym. This free activity is supervised by HF Coach/staff on a volunteer basis for grades 4-12 only. Due to the large participation and overcrowding, we need to split by age groups. The first hour (from 5:30-6:30) is for students in grades 4-8. The second hour (from 6:30-7:30) is for students in grades 9-12. Please do not show up early or stay late since you cannot be hanging out in other areas of the school.
