SCHOOL NEWS Celebrating Our Community Working Together Nga mihi mahana nui ki te whanui o te kura o Winchester! Huge appreciation to the families, staff and wider community of our school for your support and help on Saturday and Sunday. Thank you so much for coming to our working bee. We had a small window of opportunity before the big rains came in and without a doubt we took full advantage of it. There was an impressive amount of work done and your help not only gives our caretaker, Clive Scott, a welcome hand, it also saves the school money and time. Together we ticked off some big items from our to-do-list including demolishing the concrete wall and dismantling some of the fencing near the tennis courts. These two jobs needed completing before we started on the extension and conversion of our library into a new classroom. Keep a lookout for this starting early Term 4. Also there are those yearly jobs that you ticked off like pruning the roses and raking the leaves, and tidying up the borders and sand pits. Water blasting the school fence on the State Highway side has freshened up the look of the school and thanks for all the back breaking work shifting the bark onto the huge border near the tennis courts. And a special thanks to Blake for the mountains of bark, Kate for the river stones and Lucy and Tyson for the help demolishing and taking away the concrete from the wall. We really appreciated the machinery, time, energy and aroha you put into making Winchester Rural a wonderful space to learn, play and grow. An absolutely outstanding effort - we’re so proud to be a part of such a supportive, skilled and generous community. Kia pai to ra Tre

The Pohutukawa children want to know…
”Are dragons real?” This is what they already know…
Dragons are big and they are like a lizard - Rowan Dragons breathe fire - Paddy Dragons are like dinosaurs - Ben Dragons can fly - Zlata Dragons guard treasure and let no one else have it - Paxton I know that dragons make fire and fly. They can lay eggs and inside the eggs are colourful baby dragons. - Phelise Dragons have wings and are handsome - Cooper
Can you help us? Dear Mums, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and friends We are trying to find out if dragons are real. We have decided to find out as much as we can about dragons by looking in storybooks first. So far we have read Puff the Magic Dragon, Day of Dragons and Benjamin the Lonely Dragon. We know that dragons can be friendly and we also know that they can be sad. We have got a lot of other books to read too, so soon we will know a whole lot more about dragons. We were wondering if you had any story books, stories, videos or any kind of information that might help us to learn more? If you do, we would love it if you came to the Pohutukawa class to share with us. We would love to learn some more. Thank you. Love the Pohutukawa children

ATTENTION ALL FARMERS: Did you know that if your farm has supplied ANZCO, AFFCO or Lean Meats with Bobby calves this year, our school can be sponsored 50 cents for every calf sent. This is of no cost to you or your business but is paid directly by the company to our school PTA. ANZCO will backdate all calves sent this season already! Please ask your farm owner/employer/sharemilker if they would consider this and contact me asap so I can get your farm added to Winchester Rural School. Thank you!
