      It   was   a  celebration   of   the   arts   across   our   school   at   our   spring   concert   held   on   Tuesday,  April   18.   Before   the   concert,   families   toured   the   hallways   of   CCS   to   view   a  showcase   of  outstanding   artwork   by   our   students   that   was   displayed   by   our   art   teacher,   Mrs.   Smart.  Parents   and   community   members   were   then   treated   to   a  recorder   performance   by   our   4th  grade   students,   individually   designed   “sound   suits”   created   and   choreographed   by   our   3rd  graders,   and   a  boom­whacker   show   and   xylophone   performance   by   our   5th   grade  students.    All   students   in   1­6   performed   songs   rehearsed   with   Ms.   Jacobson   and   our   7th  graders   shared   a  group   dance   from   their   music   class.    Eighth   grade   students   Leah  LaCross   and   Tim   Harris   delighted   the   audience   by   sharing   their   individual   musical   talents  with   solo   performances.    The   surprise   finale   of   the   show   however   allowed   the   entire   CCS  community   to   celebrate   and   thank   Ms.   Jacobson   for   her   33   year   teaching   career   at   CCS.  Ms.   J.   summarized   her   appreciation   for   the   night   with   this   statement:   "Thank   you,   all,   for  making   this   evening   of   Music   and   Art   a  success   and   a  sweet   memory   for   me." 

Spring   NECAP   Science   Exam   for   Grades   4  &  8         The   NECAP   Science   test   will   be  administered   the   week   of   May   8­12   to   our  4th   and   8th   grade   students.    Please  encourage   your   child   to   get   a  good   night’s  rest   and   be   prepared   to   do   his   or   her   best.    

SBAC   Assessment   for   Grades  3,   5,   and   6  Students      Smarter   Balance   testing   at   CCS   will  continue   Monday,   May   8,   with   our   grade   3,  5,   and   6  students.    Fourth   grade   students  resume   May   15.Your   child   should   get   a  good   night’s   rest,   eat   a  healthy   breakfast  and   take   his   or   her   time   during   the   test   to  do   their   best.         Parents   may   view   a  sample   test  at: http://nh.portal.airast.org/students­and­f amilies/   .   Families   may   access   practice  questions   for   both   ELA   and   Math   at   home  by   following   this   link.   Thank   you   for  encouraging   your   child   to   work   hard!

Muffins   for   Moms 

Mrs.   Mara   led   our   1st­7th   grade   students   in  singing   “ Thank   you   for   the   Music”    to   Ms.   J  at  her   final   concert   as   Music   Teacher   at   CCS   

Student   of   the   Trimester       C   lassroom   teachers   selected  students   from   their   homerooms   as  their   nominated   ‘Student   of   the  Trimester’.    Students   were   chosen  as   exemplars   for   their   work   ethic,  attitude,   and   helpfulness   towards  others.    Kindness   towards   others  was   a  common   theme   noted   this  trimester.   The   following   students  were   recognized   before   vacation  for   the   2nd   trimester   of   2016­17:    1st   Grade:   Sydney   Prickett,   Bryan   Sherburne,   Caitlyn   Casey,  and   Annabelle   Stewart  2nd   Grade:   Ray   Abbott,   Aliya  Fish,   Teaghan   Nyhan,   and  Brooklyn   Wright  3rd   Grade:   Tessa   Love,   Ben  Bourbeau,   Layla   Thorne,   Ava  Strazzeri   and   Jacob   Raymond  4th   Grade:   Brooke   Daly,  Savannah   Eaton,   and   Camdyn   Depres  5th   Grade:   Devin   Hubbard,  Michael   Cox,   and   Lindsey   Eaton  6th   Grade:   Andrew   Chiavaras,  Lydia   Jameson,   and   Jordan   Saltmarsh  7th   Grade:   Abby   Randall,  Summer   Pescinski,   Ryan   Ardine,  and   Nathan   Smith  8th   Grade:   Leah   LaCross,   Corey   Cleasby,   and   Ricky   Arrell

Welcome   Superintendent  David   Ryan 

     On   Friday,   May   12th,   the   PTO  will   celebrate   'Muffins   with   Moms',  an   early   Mothers'   Day   treat.   This  event   will   be   from   7:30­ 8:00   AM   in  the   CCS   cafeteria.   Our   PTO   has  asked   for   RSVPs   in   order   to  prepare   sufficiently   for   the   event.    Contact   the   main   office   of   school   if  you   would   like   to   attend.

NJHS   Runs   in    Rock’N   Race   in   May       NJHS   will   again   be   sponsoring  the   team   CCS   Rams   For   Robert  for   the   2017   Rock   'N  Race   for   the   Payson  Center.   It   will   be   held  on   May   18th   at   6:00  PM   in   Concord.   You  can   register   at   the  website   under   the   team   name   and  also   make   any   donations.  http://bit.ly/rams4robert   Come   join  the   NJHS   in   the   fight   against  cancer.   Thank   you! 

 

Fruit   and   Vegetable   Week        The   Wellness   Committee   will   be  sponsoring   Fruit   &  Vegetable   Week  Monday,   May   8th   through   Friday,  May   12th.    During   lunch   this   week,  students   will   be   able   to   sample  different   kinds   of   fruits   and  vegetables   based   on   the   color   of  the   day.   

Monday,   May   8  =  Red  Tuesday,   May   9  =  Green  Wednesday,   May   10   =  Purple  Thursday,   May   11 = Yellow / Orange  Friday,   May   12   =  Blue   &  White   

Students   are   encouraged   to   wear  the   color   of   the   day.    The  classroom   with   the   most  participation   points   at   the   end   of  the   week   will   win   a  smoothie   party. 

pleased   to   announce   the   selection   of  its   new   Co­Superintendent   of   Schools  for   Allenstown,   Chichester   and  Epsom,   Mr.   David   Ryan.   After   an  exhaustive   search   process   resulting   in  final   interviews   of   the   two   candidates  on   Thursday,   April   20,   2017,   the   SAU  #53   School   Board   voted   to   appoint   Mr.  David   Ryan.   The   ratification   of   Mr.  Ryan’s   contract   by   the   SAU   #53  Executive   School   Board   is   scheduled  for   later   this   month.    Mr.  Ryan  has  served  for  17  years  as  a  school  administrator.  While  he  is  currently  serving  as  Assistant  Superintendent  of  the  Manchester  School  District  for  Curriculum  and  Instruction,  Mr.  Ryan  also  has  been  a  principal,  assistant  principal  and  a  teacher.  At  the  university  level,  Mr.  Ryan  has  taught  courses  including  School  Organizational  Leadership,  School  Law  and  Ethics  and  has  supervised   principal   field   interns.    Mr. Ryan has been published in the  areas  of  school­centered  student  communication,  educational leadership  and  district  leaders  building  a  culture  of  innovation.  He  anticipates  receiving  his  doctorate  from  Boston  College  in  May  2018.  He  and  his  wife  and  3  children   reside   in   Hooksett.    Mr.  Ryan  will  commence  his  responsibilities  as  Co­Superintendent  of  Schools  in  July.  The  position  became  available  when  Co­Superintendent  Dr.  Gail  Paludi  announced   her   retirement.     Jim  Deely,  Chair  of  the  SAU #53  School  Board  stated:  “On behalf of the  SAU  #53  School  Board,  I  wish  to  thank  the  members  of  the  Co­  Superintendent  Search  Committee,  chaired  by  Co­Superintendent  Patty  Sherman.  Additionally,  I  thank  the  school  staff,  students  and  community  members  who  took  an  active  role  in  the  vetting  process  throughout  the  search  resulting  in  the  appointment  of  Mr.   David   Ryan.”
